@@peniletouch Not exactly new territory. Mike Mushok from Staind immediately springs to mind as the first person I heard use this kind of "open" tuning (Ab Db Ab Db Gb Bb, like the lower six of a seven string, rather than a six in Drop-D with an added low A), as far as anything resembling metal music. But in this kind of context, as well as music by bands like Northlane, it is kind of new. I've heard it used more for chordy, melodic stuff than the more notey, technical heavy music coming out the last several years. All sus2s and sus4s, previously. It's a cool tuning that will mess with your brain for a long time when you switch to it. Might just be Drop-E to some, but this dude added a whole new string to his guitar and tuned it in a way where he can't just "move everything down," then wrote a track that kills it, using techniques he's probably still adjusting to because of years of muscle memory. All that string-skipping he does throughout the song is not incredibly easy to do cleanly, and now the distances he's used to crossing are different. Chord shapes and scales are all different on the lowest strings. Three-note sus, minor, and major chords on the lowest three strings are slightly different shapes. Octaves using the lowest four strings are different. He may not have invented anything, but he had to adjust to a lot.

After this video I thought that this is instrumental by-design track. Was very surprised to discover in the end, that this is (as I understand) just version with excluded vocals, and this is a song by-design. I think this is great, that even without the vocals - tune is still works pretty good as instrumental track :)

@noompsieOG Жыл бұрын

Here it looks like his 5 string is tuned to drop A. Every time the guitar hits the low E, the bass hits the 7th fret. It's a cool adaptation.
@DMxExMxO Жыл бұрын
Drop A then match the open notes with the E string or 7th fret on the low A, trying to go lower than drop G is very muddy on bass unless your guitar is specifically set up for it so it’s easier to just tune to an E1 instead of an E0 for clarity.

The 7th string is fitted with an .80. They are both soloists. It’s hard for me to pick a favourite but I can’t ignore the quality of build of my Concept Series SLAT7P.
