You have the most common sense taxidermy channel I have found, and I have surfed a LOT of them. I have two skulls macerating now and I have used the peroxide but never mixed with BW2.. I will do this for these two... What I REALLY, REALLY would like to see you put out is a video of your finish work process on full mounts. Airbrush work, colors, eye shading etc.. Thanks for the content your putting out.. Very useful.

I try to keep it simple because I ran into the same issues when I was learning. Everything seemed to be over complicated. I'll try and put out a finishing video soon!

@thecedarridgechronicles thanks! You've probly mentioned before, but you mount the deer while the hide is still damp?
@thecedarridgechronicles Жыл бұрын
Yes, but I towel dry inside and out. The glue makes better adhesion with a slightly damp hide. The trick is to bag it until the glue begins to set then work in all the details 👍

The sinus cartilage looks cool, but I heard someone claim that they turn yellow over time. I wonder how true that is, particularly if you do a good job de-greasing and whitening. If it's an inevitable thing, I'll probably opt to remove them when I eventually do one.
@thecedarridgechronicles11 ай бұрын
It can yellow if it isn’t degreased properly, but also a shot of white paint will cover it and be unnoticeable inside the cavity too 👍
@Gutslinger11 ай бұрын
@@thecedarridgechronicles Yeah, that's an idea. I'm not a general fan of paint, but it shouldn't be too noticeable in that area, if you get the correct shade.
@thecedarridgechronicles11 ай бұрын
@Gutslinger yeah I avoid painting mine at all costs unless I have attached a cap to a different skull or it is a badly stained dead head but the sinuses and inside the brain cavity can be sprayed with a matte bone white and is unnoticeable

What do you use to degrease them with before whitening? Ive whitened mine same exact whitener recipe youre using in video, but later yellowing started showing since i unfortunately did not degrease correctly.. ive tried using oxi but noticed it was really softening the skull and left a small hole in one skull from softening too much 🙁 love your videos tho! After watching this video, I ordered the exact same products off Amazon to whiten a hog skull I European mounted for my son. Mixed it to a similar consistency and painted on the head and wrapped it in plastic wrap let sit for 7 days. Unfortunately it turned out a dual white. Have you ever had this happen? I'm thinking I didn't apply it thick enough on the skull. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you
@thecedarridgechronicles Жыл бұрын
It is very possible there is still some grease in the skull. It is very common on hog skulls. It will cause the skull to appear an ivory color rather than white because the grease won't allow much peroxide penetration. A heat gun will dissolve small spots, and even leaving it a while to dry out might even get rid of it if it's not too thick. You can try more peroxide again and it will not hurt anything if you want to first and just see if it helps.

Wow They sit for two months. I am doing your steps and it has been 9 days and everything is almost off. Is it possible to decrease this two month time to let’s say two weeks? Thanks
@thecedarridgechronicles Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. The warmer the water the faster, also if you never change the water it smells horrible but works in a fraction of the time because of the bacteria growth. Also, if the skull is already beginning to rot and not fresh it will take way less time. I finished 2 last week that only macerated for about 3 weeks but it was really hot then. Now it's in the 20's and they will take a while.
