Mind blown - for two reasons: first of all that Resolve is so friggin' complicated, and second of all that your ability to break this all down, actually teach us, and make it fun is unreal! Thank you so much, Casey! Can't wait to learn more from you!

I've had Resolve and Fusion for a while. Never messed with Fusion because it scared the piss out of me. But you make it so easy to just go in and see that it's not that intimidating. And really efficient. I prefer it over AE IMHO. Thanks Casey and have a great day.

Great tutorial. That was the one for me. There is always that little thing when you start you don't get, but you can't really put your finger in it, and most experienced people don't highlight it because it's too obvious to them. But once you get it, everything starts to make more sense and it becomes almost intuitive. Thank you very much.

Thanks, Casey, great tutorial. This seems like a great candidate for how to build a reusable effect. Suppose someone wanted to reuse the "text message dialog" animation a few times in the timeline or in different projects, and wanted to simple way to use what you've built, then customize the text, animation points, etc. A template? A .settings file? A macro? Anyway, seems like a good candidate for re-use.

I like your channel so I'm now subscribed. I love your example here but right away I want to make it into some kind of template. Imagine you have to create a few hundred of these text bubbles. Here's the tools I'd like to use and/or build to make this task uniform and easier. 1. Can you wrap one bubble into a reusable package (like a template) that can be loaded as an asset and used multiple times on the project (and moved to other projects)? 2. Can you make this "template" so that I can change the text but keep the bubble the same? 3. Can you make the "bubble" word-wrap when length of the text reaches the bubble margin? 4. When the text wraps, can you make the "bubble" expand vertical to fit multiple text lines?
@maumau161

1. You can select and drag any number of nodes into the "Bin" dialog to save them as presets. These are accessible in any comp you create. This feature is not yet available in Resolve's Fusion page, you need the standalone Fusion for that. 2. If you want to make a template that only exposes specific attributes, create a "macro". (Select the nodes you want to use, RMB -> Macro -> Create Macro) 3. In the "Layout" tab of the text-tool select "Frame" in the "Type" combo box 4. That should work either using publishing of attributes or expressions. ("Height" attribute of the text needs to influence the height of the mask.)

@@maumau161 This doesn't work for me. Whenever I save a macro, the keyframes get baked in to the project. So, if my macro was created at frames 1-10, if I'm working on a clip in frame 200, and bring in the macro, it'll only work in frame 1-10. Any idea of how to make the macro be relative?

@hypermatrix8999
@hypermatrix8999 5 жыл бұрын
Just use a merge to merge 2 text nodes before they're connected to the merge node that places the text over the background node. So Rectangle + Polygon + Background connect to Merge1. Text1 + Text2 connect to Merge2. Merge2 (which is just the 2 text nodes) connects to Merge1 as the foreground element, while the chatbox listed above connects to Merge1 as the background element.

Big important tip for all future videos. When you do a "how to" project, make sure to let it run at least once (if not a couple times) at the end and beginning of the video. Lots of people want to see "what are we doing" and then will follow along. If the end result is there at the beginning/end they see what they need. For this video the only way of seeing the end result is to do it yourself and run it yourself.

I swear I saw one you made, maybe a more advanced version, of text message animations but you were able to freeze the center of the bubble and only the edges could grow or shrink. This allowed for longer text messages to dynamically resize the bubble to fit... but I can't find it again 😭😭

First of all thanks for the video. Secondly, i know it's an old video, but the principles explained oof fusion should work in later iterratians as well, right? I've encountered a problem where one of the thread (backround, rectangle, text) is visible through the whole setup (trasnformed and moved around with set keys) while the other doesn't even show up. No matter what I click to be displayed, a merge (bg and text), a transformation or final merge (between input and output), nopthing shows the second bubble. I palyed with size in all three of them an nothing worked. Any idea what's causing it?

Hey Casey. Thanks for this, really great. Quick question. Have you ever had a scaling issue in Resolve / Fusion? On a HD timeline I imported some 4k footage. I scaled it to fit the HD viewer in the edit tab. I jump over to the Fusion Tab and do some work, like in this tutorial of yours. When I jump back to the edit page the footage is now a small square in the middle of the HD frame???? I'm running Resolve Studio, latest version. Thanks again. Martin.

Found a solution. Drop 4k clip onto HD timeline. Resize and perform all camera moves and position changes, then...and only then....right click the clip and create a fusion clip. Then all scaling and movement remains the same when switching over to Fusion and back to Edit....wonder if anyone else has this issue? Cheers.

I kind of want to consolidate a few nodes with the logic of, if they are supposed to be the same, then the can be one node. Like the bubble nodes before they are colorized by the background nodes could be two masks instead of four. Thugh I'm a bit conflicted as to how it would solve instances where the text needs to be longer with taller boxes. AndI also somehow want to merge the chat boxes before the planar transform since they need to be connected anyways. But yeah, that's nit picking and not the point of the video. So I'll willfully ignore it. :P
