I was just reading comments and am a diesel mechanic as well. I was going to put up the mud flap suggestion as well as they are probably easier to get even in the snowy north. Probably could get them free as well as usually they are thrown out if damaged. Heck you could probably find them along the hi way. Was thinking maybe a bias ply tire could be used if you had some (like I do) laying around

@@sixtyfiveford One can get an 8hp self powered wood chip off Craigs List for cheap, take the motor off and drive it by the PTO. I've seen only a few done in the Eastern EU countries and one in NC for a CUT tractor. However, it wasn't a full DIY demo of how to do it. That would be the awesome video to create.

I know you play around with snowblowers. You should give this a try on one or even your Ariens tractor next winter. It virtually eliminates chute clogging with wet snow and will throw snow twice as far.

Hi I recently finished building my own design disc chipper, and found that although I got the chip fan blades fairly close to the casing it still clogs up. I am going to take your advise and fit the rubber strips on the fan blades. What I really wanted to ask you was: How critical is the spacing needed for the cutting blades to the anvil? I would appreciate any comments you may have. Thanks for the rubber strip tip.

Yes, they will clog when you push a lot of small branches/leaves into the chipper.

What's the best way to add a power feed to this? Was hoping for something with a variable speed electric motor and gearbox. Or maybe there is a way to add hydraulic motor for the feed.
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford Жыл бұрын
The easiest way would be to make the intake angle adjustable. The steeper it is the more the chipper will pull the sticks in. That does have the downside of reducing the size of branch though. A spring loaded drive roller driven by hydraulic(or electric motor) is how the commercial units do it.

In these models its really not a big deal. The hopper being so long make the blades quite far out of reach. You would need "King Kong" arms to reach down there. LOL ;-)

Hey Sixtyfive, what brand 20W-50 do you use in your mower hydro unit? I could only find Mobil 1 locally, and it is $10 a quart. Kind of pricey. I am going to change my fluid this week for the first time.

I'll bet that if you measure the velocity and volume of the air flow, then pull out your rubber vane extenders and measure again, that you'll discover that the chip velocity gain is primarily due to your dramatically increased air flow. In the chipper, the air will jump out of the way, rather than take on the high velocity of the the impeller, if you give it a gap on the perimeter. Those light little chips will do what ever the surrounding air is doing and your air is screaming. NOT a criticism of your great quick and easy fix, bravo!

So were those 4 paddles worn out or did it come like that? On farm equipment those paddles have to be replaced alot an its expensive. This reminds me of some pickup truck snow plows are now made from poly.

A lot of these chipperz won't self feed no matter what you do. It can beat the crap out of your hands. Sharpening the blades always helps but generally it's the angle of the input shoot.

MYFREECAMPER Thanks. Chippers are fun but they need a good engine to be able to chip good size wood. Most small chippers you would buy from the home improvement stores will beat you up and be more work than they're worth.

I'm surprised this works. I would think the hard rubber blade addition would not stand up to the violence of busting up hard wood. What did the rubber blades look like after running a while?.
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 10 жыл бұрын
They only come into contact with the already cut up chips. This larger unit is designed the same way the cheap Home Depot ones are. Where you have a flywheel with a slot cut into the face and a blade in front of that. The outer edges of the flywheel have impeller blades(just a fan). This mod only affects the fan portion of the chipper making it clear out chips faster and more efficiently. The rubber paddle blades have about 75 hours on them and they look just like they did when I put them on.

I search youtube for anyone with a Ferguson TO30 running a wood chipper and found your video. I'll now see if you have anymore videos showing your tractor running it but in case you don't I want to say now that I liked your video and would like to see more of your tractor running it. BTW is it still 6v or is it now 12v? I'm just finishing rewiring mine and turning it back into a 6v tractor and I noticed that yours was a little slow beginning to start so I figured it was a weak charge or possibly a 6v & was curious.
