The artist in me went straight to the color wheel when I was picking seeds. I chose Zinnias in colors of the yellow, yellow green and green and mixed them with red, magenta and purple. I wanted zinnias but not in the usual pink, orange, red and yellow that you always see.

Love your channel and theory on color. I've been pretty good at this practice. However, THE ANIMALS GET IN MY WAY!!! They limit me so much! Deer, squirrels, rabbits, the groundhog who by the way disappeared last summer so I'm curious what this summer will be with my new, slightly limited number of plant attackers. I've found some plants that are "safe" and work with my colors: mostly shades of purple (perennial salvia), yellows (canna for height and low growing annuals). And, I have a few large rocks and perennial shrubs to section off and ground the flowering plants/ fill the spaces. On the Yarrow = Animal resistant and love it but not thrilled with my result. I just can't get it to flower well. Think I'm watering too much (and it gets very weedy too).

You'll have to find ways to deter the animals I think

I'm overanalyzing and need help. These are great color tips regarding flowers but what about evergreen shrubs? How much does does a green shrub impact the color palette? I have an open canvas with only a small crimson Queen. I'm looking to maybe add a Sunshine Ligustrum, some Anna's Magic Ball Arborvitae, some Gardenia Radicans, a couple Blush Pink Heavenly Bamboo, and a Crimson Fire Loropetalum, and a few Indian Feather Belleza Dark Pink all per the advice of someone from the nursery. If I look at all those colors, it seems like that is more colors than the reccomended color patterns. I don't really like the Crimson Fire because the leaves are like velcro but it was suggested because of color. I would appreciate your input on this!

Green is a neutral color in the garden since so many things are green. It would be difficult to design a garden without any green, I would think 🤔

Just to add to this about your plant choices... This is not the only way to design a garden and I have other videos about color schemes you can watch as well as an article on my website. It's just one way to do it. Color theory is a complex topic and there's a lot of nuances that go into it. Beyond basic colors there's also shades and tones of color, vibrancy, etc. But I don't want to confuse you further. The plants that you're describing other than the Gardenia, which is white, appear to be in the green, chartreuse, red (maybe?) and magenta color categories. Magenta and chartreuse are opposite each other on the color wheel so they do make an exciting, vibrant combination. IF thats what you're going for. I don't think I can answer your question because it doesn't sound like you truly know what you want from your garden. What appeals to you? Don't purchase a plant that you don't like if you don't understand the reason it was suggested... You may need to do some more research and try to curate some idea of what you want your garden to look like before you go any further. I do have an online course that takes you through the process of designing a garden bed using the color wheel, if you do need the extra support. But overall, I think you just need to decide what would make you happy and what your own personal garden style is. www.prettypurpledoor.com/garden-color-schemes www.prettypurpledoor.com/course

I'm still wondering how it could be possible to include white or very dark flowers (kind of daysies or chocolate cosmos) ? Any help would be very valuable for me.

7:38 - How do you get the yarrow to stand so straight? I planted yarrow and it was very lanky and liked to flop around and grow at angles. Are you supposed to stake it? I was sort of disappointed with how mine turned out.

There are different varieties of yarrow that grow to different sizes. The variety I have is probably no more than 18". Staking is wise for common fernleaf yarrow, since its stems can grow over 4' high. Lots of cultivars available to fit different situations.

I get confused in the transition where color scheme shifts. I guess the answer I to limit to 3 colors, but I'm not that disciplined yet
