Just wanted to say that I DID download your color corrector and used it in Davinci Resolve. Using HLG with BT2020. Worked perfectly!

Great video Mark! I love using LUTS and also because I suck at color grading. Haha... But really, it's a life saver!

Now that I use a the Xrite Color Checker I can colour grade better, but it takes soooo much time. Tpwhen a LUT works for you, it’s literally a click of a button and you’re done!!

Excellent. But it would be better if you show in your videos how you set up the zebras and exposure with the HLG or the Vlog
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis2 жыл бұрын
Thanks - but I just follow the recommended settings in the LeemingLUT which set zebras at 75 on my face for exposure for both HLG and vlog
@hakimbenchabane2 жыл бұрын
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for thé answer. When you say you set zebra at 75 on the face you mean you made the zebra disappear or you let them showing on the face ?

@@hakimbenchabane I let them just start to appear. It doesn’t have to be perfect - but as long as it’s close

I prefer the HLG with the Leeming LUT. If that makes me a crazy person, so be it!

No, it doesn't. It has the same DR and better highlight rolloff. You are right

@@26alexxkidd I was just about to write this!! Especially viewing it here on KZbin it handles the highlights much better. Time to switch!!

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis do you expose outdoors to the far right until zebras show up, or do you underexpose a bit? I find the latest Pro brighter than before
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis3 жыл бұрын
@@26alexxkidd They are definitely brighter this time. I was used to the old ones, but after some testing, the new ones are more accurate, so I switched to them. To answer your question, when I'm outside, I still expose to skin tones at 75%, unless I'm in a really bright place. If I know a bunch of scene is going to be blown out, I pay attention to the 80% zebras (or 90% with HLG) for the scene. It's a balancing act - in a high dynamic scene you have to make a choice and since I usually have people in my shots, I try to make sure they look good first!!

I want to try that Leeming LUT but I’m green with FCP. I’m moving from Lumafusion to FCP. Great tutorial. Thank you 🙏
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis3 жыл бұрын
No problem. You’ll be happy to know that he Leeming Lut will also work with Premiere Pro and DaVinci as well. Now that I think about it, I think you might be able to use the LUT in Lumafusion. I haven’t tried that - but I will - thanks for the idea!!

I didn't like the first version of Lemming LUTs. I will give those new versions a try! Thanks for the video! One question, you said you expose to the Skin Tones at 75, when there are no Skin Tones do you use the ETTF as he says on the manual or do use a balances expousure? Again, thanks for the video, the color are great!
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis3 жыл бұрын
If you previously ordered the leemingLUT - the update is free - which is great. If I’m not using skin tones, I set the zebras to 80 in VLog for the highlights as per the Leeming guide. 👍👍

Hi Mark, curious about the HLG exposure settings you used in this video as the raw HLG footage looks noticeably brighter than your raw VLog footage. Did you use the ETTR method Leeming suggests? I'm new to ETTR- do you gauge exposure primarily on zebras?
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis3 жыл бұрын
Yes - you expose with zebras for the leeming luts. I used the the zebras set to 75 for the skin tones. HLG and VLOG handle the highlights a little differently, so you will see some difference. Also, the HLG requires less light - so I had to turn my key light down for that. Since the key light is down, the background lights will appear brighter on the HLG as the background lights were unchanged during the tests. So overall, in my test, the entire scene with HLG will be brighter overall. The only way I could have matched the scenes exactly would have been to turn down the background lights proportionately to the key light (which would have been a bit of a guess).

75% zebra in log for skintone is too high, is't it?
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis2 жыл бұрын
Not with the Leeminglut because you are exposing to the right on purpose. Once the LUT is applied, the exposure will be perfect.
