ok so is using a phone number for 2fa secure or not? why do some tech people say NEVER EVER USE SMS FOR 2FA but then others (like this one) totally say go for it?

I am a Security Systems Engineer. NEVER use SMS for any websites with sensitive information. It is fairly easy for hackers to intercept text messages in transit. My organization only allows Push Notification or TOTP via Microsoft Authenticator. Using a Physical Security key (e.g. YubiKey) or an app like Authy that generates a one-time code is the safest method for consumers.

This is not 2FA via SMS. The second factor is another device which is already logged into your accout. This device receives a notifcation request to confirm the login.

​@@OliverStahl no it's not. Any device that's logged into your account can be identified directly by Google, they don't need the phone number for it. Anything related to your phone number is unsafe (SIM replacement attack), so don't use it.

If you lose the phone number or similar scenarios?uhm{}thats a problem there's better ways ......... But is one of many things one must keep up with checklists and updates of changes. Also after updates of Google apps I think it defaults some agreements or settings. Take with a grain of salt just personally had ran into it personally once. 😂Not happy with a lot of ways we have no choice on our phones and the tech agreements and changes that both feels forced as the only option or .???anyone feel what I'm pointing towards? Only FEW
