Loved your responses to my last question about detail work so I though't I'd ask another.. What's your best advice or tip for painting foliage yourself? Would love to know!
@ursulanonya65906 жыл бұрын
Chuck Black Art I have a brush I trimmed uneven with a few long strands here and there. It was for fur, but I found it useful for grass too. I don't know much, so I just experiment alot.

I use a fan brush that is really worn out and also uneven. For the most part that works great for me !

Great video as always, i am also using a few brushes that i cut them myself and this way i will have for example 3 tips to do grass blades insted of one( it goes a bit faster😁) and also i use a very thin liner brush.
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS6 жыл бұрын
I tend to use really totaled-out brushes, for distant foliage, and small detail brushes for up close foliage. I have used, after painting grasses in, a tool to scratch out highlights. The highlights can be made quite thin, using that technique, and if taken all the way to the canvas, are quite bright.

Hi Chuck This great tutorial is 2 yrs old and I did not start painting on canvas until 20 months ago waiting for a hip op at 78. So, I have watched many grass videos and this is by far the best, therefore many thanks. I have painted many landscapes with horses, dogs, cattle, sheep etc., mustering but my grass is RS! I am now going over every painting after watching this video and making the grass bounce out of the scenes. Many thanks once again. Ross

This is a very good video for me. It's what I'm struggling with. I painted a horse real good and the one thing that I'm having trouble with is the grass. I may have gone too bight on the green. But I sure am going to watch this again and even again if I have to. I painted this one for my very good friend who worked with horses that he loved. The hardest part is that he's a very good painter, himself. So, that makes me feel intimidated. LOL I"ll keep on trying; I can't give up. Thank you so much for this Chuck Black. I love the deer here. It's another great painting of yours. Love it.

@fred59686 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on accomplishing a wonderful work of art, Chuck. I think this is one of your best paintings. It's certainly one of my favorites. Questions: Were the grasses painted with acrylics or oils (or maybe both)? I know a liner brush works great, but to me, it's not easy to get the paint to just the right consistency for thin blades of grass and other fine details. How do you do it?
@eeva20005 жыл бұрын
Mineral spirits? You never got a reply to this, huh.
@golfradar776 жыл бұрын
chuck, your're the BOMB buddy! First minute of video, could you explain the "setup"? Like when determining where the grass will be; using different brushes. You see to us(me?ha) that is a technique also that I'd love to learn from you. Also the use of oil over acrylic on your paintings ( a no-no as you know in many communities right) well I'm trying out oils and Golden's OPEN acrylics that act like oils. Your thoughts. Love your style and teaching abilities!

G😊😄 d aftern😀😁 n, I thought U might be amused by my method of painting an entire scene, (on top the basic block-in) with a t😁😆 th brush. This particular scene lent itself well to that method; a buffalo standing amidst tall waving prairie grass. The t😃😀 th brush was quite scrubbed down, with bristles sticking out in all angles, so gave a random assortment of thin blades, & buffalo hair. Love your videos!!! Thank you S0 much for sharing. Gloria
