Thanks for the comment! Glad to hear you liked it. I now have the same grow bed with a 55 gallon tank. It's still working like a charm.

As the first comment points out, you need to make sure your fish match your aquaponics system. These goldfish produce lots of nitrogen which is good for my aquaponics system, but this is only a 10 gallon starter tank and they will be getting rehomed before too long. Do some research or ask a knowledgeable person at your local pet store if you don't plan to be moving fish around in the long run.

Hey Mr. Dever! This is Kiara and I absolutley miss your classroom. My new science classroom is kinda plain. How have you and Mr. Davis and Mrs. Wilkins been? Have a great rest of your night *yes ik that ts **11:58** at night*

Hey! Thanks for all the compliment! As you can see we have the aquaponics set back up again. We are all doing good here! Hope your year just gets better and better. Mr. D

I'm building a 10 gallon system right now. How long should I wait after constructing the system before adding fish and vegetables plants?

Just until your water temperature and quality is good for the particular fish you are using. Some are more picky than others. If you filled it with tap water you should either treat the water or let it sit for a few days to let the chlorine dissipate. There are additives you can put in the water to reduce the chlorine. Also if you fish are sensitive to ph etc. you might want to check with your fish supply store to find out what the levels should be. Once that stuff is right you are ready to go for it! Make sure you rinse your rocks well so that you don't cloud you water all up too! Have fun!

Those comet goldfish need 30x more space. Think 80 gallons minimum. Surviving is not thriving. They are the worst fish due to their high bio load and nitrogen output. Don’t tell me I’m wrong, google it first.

Thanks for the important reminder! These one's will be getting re-homed at some point. Anyway the fascinating thing is that a well-established aquaponics system can support way more nitrogen output than a normal fish tank/filter system.

I think that it's extremely impressive that you knew that!

Your wrong the heavier the bio load the better the plants do 60 or 50 low boy or breeder tank is fine 4 comet gold fish will support that bed easily 🫢😎

You didnt explain where the water comes from to keep the aquarium at that water level. Is there a reservoir? Bc if there is no reservoir, the water level in aquarium will decrease as it passes through the grow medium. I didnt see your aquarium water level change.

Good point! You will have to add water to the grow bed or the aquarium once the pump starts running. Also an aquaponics system will need water added more frequently than a regular fish tank due the the greater surface for evaporation and the uptake and transpiration of water through the plants themselves.
