A better option for pots is aquaponics baskets. They have a larger flange on the top therefore are more forgiving with your hole size. I'm growing some parlour palms this way and they are flowering at the moment.

Great idea, this is exactly what I am thinking of, and found your channel! I grew herbs before using the hydroponic method. Just a friendly reminder for those who want to try this, be gentle with the plant when shaking out the soil, and not to hurt the root system.

Sweet pototo plant is fantastic for me crazy crazy growth. Dont know why everyone leaves the sweet potato on? You can snap of the leaves (Slips) and pkace them in water they grow insane and dont have a big rotting potato on the end. Do sweet potato, I havent seen anything grow so fast on fish tank water. But use the slips once they grow and discard the potato!

Ok might have to get on the bandwagon again, thanks for the tips

@@BlakesAquatics need any tips or advice hit me up happy to help. Have a massive plant in my sump right now! Dont leave the potato in! Just the stems and leaves! Mind you gonna need a way to hang them or trail them they grow huge. I chop handfuls off every month or two.

Yey! We call that aquaponics! :D You can also raise tilapia and/or crawfish. :D And that water you change out you NEED to use for an actual garden. You're dumping liquid gold every time you water change. :*(

You should use the sweet potato slips that grow out of the tuber. Not the tuber itself. Do that part in a jar so it doesn't cause issues.

Hi, I just subscribed 🙂 What do you think about green onions? Do you think the onion roots would secrete chemicals into the water? Also, could fish parasites get on the base of the onion below water and make us humans sick?
@BlakesAquatics8 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for that. I think the biggest risk is what you have mentioned. Risk of salmonella / tuberculosis from the fish. Best to stick to things that you only eat the above water portion
@wcdeich48 ай бұрын
@@BlakesAquatics personally I'm worried about liverflukes. IDK if they'd effect a human, but i don't want to find out. Also not sure if onion roots leach chemicals into the water that could overstimulate bacteria growth.
@MrGigi-dz9cv Жыл бұрын
Any plant will root, if submerged in water. Water plants have evolved diffrently. And even those will root under certain conditions. But, if the plant sends it's roots in the water, than that is something diffrent. It puts in the water just it's roots, no other parts of the plant body.
