Very nice, and expertly explained. Love the amount of detail you get into, regarding the tools and techniques. Great video again! edit: forgot to mention the music/atmosphere, it creates a great medieval/fantasy mood!

That was unexpected! Awesome video. In some previous videos you said, you are from Eastern Europe, how are things going for you? Stay safe

Thank you! We have lot of refugees coming in, but they stay mostly in major cities, havent met anybody around here. Inflation goes crazy. Building materials are often sold out. Luckily we are self sufficient in many ways, so mostly things are ok. Take cary

Another nice video from you, how is the planejigg going for the shingles? Edit: I noticed you work without gloves, do you get blisters and do you use any workers handcream?
@JJChWorkshop
@JJChWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
Hello there! The planejig is done and ready, I will show my whole shingle making setup in a separate video. Regarding the gloves - using axes will give you enough calluses so you will never need gloves again haha, thanks!

my barn, built in the early 1800's, has hand-hewn beams - in New England, USA...some beams need replacing, no one does hand hewing anymore

Well, maybe it is time learn it again than. Being self sufficient in this manner, might prove really useful. But you are right, in my country there 20-30 people max who can do this efficiently. I was lucky to learn from them. Most of them are in their sixties, that is why I think it is immensely important to pass this knowledge on.

@@JJChWorkshop true. But replacing structural beams by oneself - not sure if that can be done.

Why is your Michigan pattern (felling ) axe hung upside down ? Those are some Very thick handles. Thick handles hurt my hands and wrists and elbows. I really enjoyed this video. You showed very well how different axes will still produce a nice beam. But the broad axe does the cleanest work ! Very nice. I liked the music also!!! That's cool that you are using a 100 year old axe that your grandfather gave you. 👍👍
