Or: you could use your bench DC power supply, a piece of copper and a piece of zinc (cathode and anode). Set up 5 VDC 2A, chuck into a beaker as demonstrated above with table salt and h2o. _Same result except costs pennies instead of $20.00. Come on you electronic technicians!_

Indeed, a simple USB phone charger and an old USB cable can do it. But let me ask you: why copper and zinc? Why not two pieces of copper or two pieces of zinc? (or maybe two screw drivers?)

hypochlorous acid... not sodium hydrochlorite. This stuff is electrolyzed salt water and you can clean things with it or drink it. gotta use kosher salt for it to work right thom
@IrinaMax

For everyone who want to get it: you should put much less salt to more water and wait just 2-3 min to make it drinkable or use it on the skin. I made it 8oz with this one spoon of salt, used spoon included in package. 10 min make is total strong bleach and even smell as bleach.

This device is marketed as a sodium hypochlorite generator, but it can generate both because hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a precursor to sodium hypochlorite (NaOCL). It all depends on the pH level. Stabilized HOCl is in the form of a 0.9% saline solution at a pH of 3.5 to 6. At pH values less than 3.5, chlorine gas (not good) begins to form, at pH values greater than 5.5, NaOCL begins to form (bleach has an alkaline pH of 11-13). A neutral pH of 7 is about 75% HOCl and 25% NaOCL. To maintain HOCl in a stable form that maximizes its antimicrobial activities, the pH of your solution needs to be between 3.5 to 5. 5% distilled white vinegar is commonly used to help bring down pH levels. Always test your chlorine and pH levels if you're making this stuff at home. Also, HOCl can be used to disinfect drinking water, but you shouldn't be drinking the solution. Don't do that.

What is the ppm of the result? You should also never use iodized salt. The other aspect of this is that this will oxidize very quickly in like 3-4 days, so it needs to be rerun to keep it potent.

Bleach. I go to the store, throw down a couple of bucks, put eight drops of bleach into one gallon of water and now I have disinfected water for after a hurricane. Now, the cool thing. Your generator will make hydrogen. 🤔 Perhaps a large dirigible? Cool device Paul, thanks for the video.

This is chlorine bleach! sodium hypochlorite is commonly known as chlorine bleach. It is an inorganic chemical compound with the formula NaOCl or NaClO, consisting of a sodium cation (Na+) and a hypochlorite anion (OCl- or ClO-). It may also be viewed as the sodium salt of hypochlorous acid1. Sodium hypochlorite is a solution made from reacting chlorine with a sodium hydroxide solution, also referred to as caustic23. Sodium hypochlorite is the oldest and still most important chlorine-based bleach1.
