Morning Clive. Thanks to your recipe it cost just a little over £10 to make 5 litres of Pouring Medium and I can then make 5 litres of white pouring base coat for around £23.50. Since a proprietary brand of Pouring Medium cost £25 for just one litre that represents quite a saving so thanks and much appreciated. Keep up the good work. 👍😃

Latex for thinning is just PVA or Elmers thinned with water all basically the same

Floetrol is just PVA and water we used it in the decorating trade for years before some smart person marketed it under its name good for them but we are baffled with products that we can make ourselves these days tho we buy without thinking

I use builder’s PVA and it is much stronger and much thicker than ordinary PVA. I have to dilute at least 1:1 with water to use as a pouring medium. Not all PVA is the same.

The Elmer's Glue-All is what you need, *NOT* the regular school glue. The school glue is prone to making the paint crack. GET THE GLUE-ALL, PEOPLE! :)

What can be used instead of glycerine as I want a matt finish. Your videos are very useful. It's good to have someone with the knowledge in the UK as those of us who live here can then source the materials. I have heard that some PVA glues yellow over time. Does this happen with the Wickes brand you were using. Thanks 😊

PVA can yellow but if mixed with acrylic if won't yellow unsure what else that can be used in place of glycerin

Hi, Clive! New to your channel, and I really appreciate you sharing this! I'm just gearing up to start flow painting & learning all I can before I start pouring. So many techniques, so many possibilities! Just out of curiosity, would this work to add a sheen to matte paints? A semi-gloss/satin finish at least? I'm starting with inexpensive craft paints so I'm not freaking out about pouring so much money down the drain as I'm dabbling & getting the hang of things, and I grabbed some matte paints for another (craft) project because I liked the colors better than most of the gloss options (...& they were half the price & I needed about 10-12 colors, soooo...). I just tested 3 colors I had to compare & test the sheen, as 2 I had grabbed at a dollar store & they did not state the sheen, so I compared to a gloss white. (Sadly, the purple I LOVE in the bottle, dries very dark--and extremely matte. :-/ ) I'm not loving the matte finish for anything I want to do with the paints, so I'm considering returning those to the craft store for gloss paints, and I can probably get by with fewer colors for that project if I mix a little on my own for different hues/shades. When I only need a very small amount for each project item, it's hard to justify the extra cost for lots of colors. (I was okay being lazy & not custom mixing my colors, which is why I grabbed the matte--more options! D'oh!) I was hoping there was some additive I could use that's not stupid expensive, like more than the difference in cost to buy all gloss paints, as I'm not a huge fan of acrylic spray. And I really don't wanna try to use that on xmas tree ornaments! Ugh! The images in my head are not fun. (Add in how toxic that stuff is to breathe in, and the fact that it's winter & usually too cold to spray outside, but I won't use that indoors, and I'm in a bit of a pickle.) I bought school glue to experiment with as a pouring medium. I can't actually find Floetrol in any of the stores near me that list it & claim it's in stock, so I grabbed glue. So is the main difference between the two just the addition of glycerine? And would glue alone be likely to create sheen with matte paints? I can play with it tomorrow, I suppose, and see what happens. I appreciate any feedback or tips you have! Thanks so much!

Just the sheen from the home made pouring mediums sold are all basically the same either resin based or latex based we are made to buy them as we think they are better the fact is we can make our own so cheaply

Resin is more permanent PVA is latex based tho both can be used with acrylic resin has a longer arrival property but we won’t be around in 150 years so why worry unless your paintings are going to be in museums or private collections

There is no latex in latex paint it's a bit confusing but it's not the same as acrylic paint is used for interior decoration

In South africa if I ask for PVA WHITE GLUE.....they will direct me to the wood glue or craft glue that are expensive. I have found one that says PVA the other PVA ACRYLIC. No mention of actual Ingredients. Only what it is used for and mostly builders top or under coat indoors or outdoors. I have been scratching my head on what would be the correct one to use. PVA is PVA just different names by manufacturer go to the DIY store and ask for pva glue used in building it's the same stuff

I'm getting a bit confused with all these different things you can make. Can you tell me, am I right in thinking this Medium is what you would use as a backing wash of colour for your painting to go on top? In other words, it just makes the paint flow more freely? which I'm guessing would also be good for creating fine detail such as hairs in a painting? Sorry for my ignorance. There is so much to take in, and if I'm honest I have been watching so many of your videos, I'm bordering on 'information overload' now :) Just in passing what part of Wales do you come from? Due to the fact that I can sometimes get carried away with pouring, I like to make quite a few colours ready for pouring so if I prepare your recipe in advance , how long can I store it. Here in Australia I have purchased the large bottle of floetrol (it’s more economical) but it sometimes sits there quite a while before I use it up and does not go off. Please advise when you can. There is no recipe for it as it's a pure resin and cannot be manufactured at home

Flow improver is different you can add a few drops of glycerin to water to help the flow

I'm confused. Isn't the fact both are acrylic and mix with water the same thing? when you said resin I thought it was going to be oil based. i understand that resin is what pine trees ooze out and that is not water soluble. at least here in the U.S. resin dissolves with petroleum.

Resin can be oil based or acrylic based Acrylic polymer resin is a plastic based resin which is soluble with water and dryers to a hard plastic resin film Polymer vinyl acetate is a latex based or rubber based product again soluble in water. There are many types of resins Hope this answers your question
