USE THIS PRESSING BOARD FOR CUTTING MAT STORAGE! I haven't read all the comments, so someone may have said this already; but maybe not. When you said that the pressing board is the same size as the cutting mat it occured to me this would be a great place to store the cutting mat. I would use 2 pieces of wood inside, slide the mat between them to keep the mat flat, and slide it under the bed. Hey, maybe I could put all my warped boards in there too, stack books on it, and shove it all under the bed. I've read this is the sort of thing you can do to flatten them. Maybe press them (with a pressing cloth) just before you put them in the bag (another method I've read about.) Thanks for the great idea. Much less expensive than the felted wool ironing pads I was looking at! Of course now I read Kay Reiter's idea of sewing handles on the outer cover. Good Idea, Kay.

For anyone out there besides myself who wants to know the flooring used in this video, I offer this information: Model # 431178 Internet # 203183010 Store SKU # 492930 Underlayment (Common: 7/32 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft.; Actual: 0.196 in. x 48 in. x 96 in.). These numbers are for Home Depot, and this is known as underlayment for VINYL floors, not just any floor. This took quite a bit of searching, so I am posting this to hopefully save some others all the angst I went through. I was adamant that I wanted what Jenny showed because of its lightweight quality. Good luck, everyone, and thanks, Jenny!

I've had a piece of 24x24 underlayment in my garage for 3yrs, when I bought my old but beautiful house. I didn't know what it was until I watched this video. It was odd to me that the wood was very hard and different. I thought to put it in my wood pile many times but for some odd reason, I couldn't. I was looking for economic ideas on yt to make a ironing board for my quilting. Thanks to Jenny, I finally know what this board is and don't have to spend a dime to make my portable ironing board. I'm thrilled that I followed my instincts and didn't discard the board. Jenny has some of the best quilting and sewing tips. She's my go to for how to.

Have an idea about your ironing board that you may want to add. If you make the outer cover with handles on the open side and make the whole thing the size so your cutting mat will slide in it when you travel to guild meetings your mat won't get broken or bent and you will have both the cutting mat and ironing board with you....Kay

I love this tutorial. Never wanted to get up in the middle of sewing to use the ironing board so didn't always press my blocks like I should. Now I have my Ironing board/pad right next to me so I can sew and press and sew and press without getting up. My quilts look so much better now that I press everything the way I am supposed to. Great idea and great job, Jenny

I want to thank you for this tutorial. It gives me a few more ideas. I was thinking that I would make the ironing pad with a cover, a slipcover for my cutting mat and ruler and add handles for transporting both. I read where someone warped their cutting mat and I guess they didn't remove it from the pouch. I thing blocking the corners will accommodate for added tools.💕

I like this... and I like that it is like a pillow slip so you can wash it. I used to have a portable cutting mat that was a padded ironing board when you flip it over. It was great to take with me, but it got dirty and then I didn't have a good way to clean it. This serves both purposes because if you wanted to make it portable you could put your cutting mat inside and carry it all with you. Thanks for sharing this, Jenny!

Jenny, I have an ironing board very much like yours that I've used for years. I used a piece of carpet pad instead of a towel and it works great. I've only had to change this pad once in about 30 years... The carpet pad I use looks like plugs of foam rubber pressed together and glued. Give it a try...

Thanks for the idea! Wanted to leave a tip. I went to Lowe's to find something to use to make this. There was a sealed pallet of wood flooring and on the top was a scrap piece that looked exactly like what you used here. It was just a protective topper for the pallet. We asked if we could buy it and they gave it to us free :) I had enough to make the ironing board and an extra 33x33 piece to cover my card table for a more sturdy cutting surface.

As nice as it is to have a darling fabric on one's pressing board, I just used some inexpensive heavy-duty white and blue ticking, which I put over some nice thick cotton batting (avoid polyester because it can melt from really high heat from an iron), stapled them into place nice and snug, and voila! Perfect pressing board. I like the idea of using an old towel, too!

I have looked for years to find the instructions for making a quilt I saw in a woman's magazine in 1986. Even though I saved the article, I can now only find the picture on the first page. The article was called 'quilt in a weekend' or 'day.' It explained how to cut the fabric in strips, then turn them and cut in squares to make your quilt pieces. Do you have any instructions on youtube for this type of cutting?
