Thank you so much for including the patterns! I've started to work on my own set of armor and I just haven't been able to get the shoulders right. Also, laminating the thick piece of foam with the 1mm foam is a genius idea to smooth it out and get rid of the gaps.

Excellent work! If you're making your own Mandalorian helmet off Punished Prop's pattern, (and if you haven't done it already) please be aware that: his pattern appears to be slightly too wide, and the cheek design for Mando's helmet is slightly different: it's comprised of two flat pieces instead of single round one.

We're actually focused on the Armorer helmet at the moment - we'll be molding and selling resin casts of that one (pre-orders are up now! www.etsy.com/listing/740872334/pre-order-resin-helmet-inspired-by-the) But we'll be using Bill's pattern for our kid's helmet so we aren't TOO worried about screen accuracy for that :)

What was the painting process like for the piece? Like, what was added on first, second, than third to give it that quality of paint?

Collin Nuccio we just did a quick 2 step process for this one - 2 coats of leak seal and 2 coats of metallic rattle can. Unfortunately this particular metallic paint has been discontinued :(

We admit it is tricky and takes practice. Before you put your glue on, it helps to sort of stretch and form the 1mm in the direction it will be laid down. It also helps to have an extra set of hands!

It really depends on how big your six-year-old is but as a starting point I'd suggest printing it out at 75% scale. Then just cut out and tape the pieces together and test ft it as a paper mockup version. Then you can scale up or down from there if it's not the right fit!

We used a floor mat for our base which is about a 8-10mm thickness so anything in that range should work!

Unfortunately, we used our last can of Brushed Aluminum from Krylon. They reformulated their metallic line of paints and the new version is nowhere near this nice :(

Can you tell me what the exact length of the centre strip is? I don't have a printer, so I trace the pattern from my screen but I need a reference scale.

Joe Dominix it's 9" long. FYI, there should be a 1" square on the pattern somewhere for scale unless we forgot it- we usually include that on all of our patterns.

We almost always use Leak Seal for sealing our foam (you can find it on the tool and supply link in the description). As for the paint, unfortunately it's one that's been discontinued 😭 it was our favorite faux metal rattle can paint and we haven't yet found one that matches it.

Its a quick and easy way to smooth out and cover an uneven surface and/or seams. Because we used a pretty pitted floor mat, the 1mm foam filled it all in without having to do a bunch of puttying and sanding - just cover and go!

The first coat was done with LeakSeal to seal the foam. It was then painted with our favorite aluminum rattle can from Rustoleum that they no longer make :( The last time we went to buy some there was one can left marked down on clearance because they reformulated everything. We bought the new version but it is nowhere near as shiny.

What kind of silver paint did you use? I originally bought silver metallic spray paint but now I'm afraid it will crack. I don't anticipate the armor bending too much but I don't want to take a chance

It was a rattle can, but unfortunately they no longer make this stuff - the new like they replaced it with does not look as real. It was our favorite metallic spray paint for most things and we still aren't over it getting reformulated 😭

Not if you made it out of EVA foam. MMCC won't approve any hard parts made of foam. However, our pattern CAN be used to make your armor out of Sintra or the like which is approvable!

The base and center piece were from a floor mat (10mm), and then we used 1mm, 2mm, and 4mm for the other parts. If you download the template it labels the thickness for each piece!

Yep, that would be another alternative although 1mm EVA foam is a lot smoother than regular Worbla. I am not a huge fan of Worbla unless I want something more organic looking just because it takes more work than good EVA to get smooth.
