This video is a shortened version of my very first video which at 31 minutes. was way too long. I have added extra bits to the vise that make it loads better. Please like and comment. Have you added anything extra that I have missed?

A very good video for making a workshop tool along with tips needed to improve the performance. I enjoyed this and the previous videos about starting woodwork with minimum hand tools. Well done. Thanks

Thank you. Much appreciated. You've been busy watching today I see.

When it comes to gluing cheap grease proof baking paper is great for covering the bench/table so that your work does not stick to the bench. The glue does not soak through it like other paper.

I think I'm in love.... with your woodworking tips! I am so going to make myself one of these. Thanks for another great video. Keep going. I'm watching your vid's in order and I can't wait to see what you're like when you get a router :)

Wow, I have never had someone go back to the start and watch in order, I love it Thank you. The router comes and it is now one of the most used tools I own, sorry for the spoiler.

tbh I am in my 60's, and have been a woodworker all my life, both as a hobby since I was about 7 yrs old, and in a professional capacity for a while, and have never heard of this Moxon vice ever- looks a useful addition to newby wood workers. Brilliant bit of kit! I bought a B&D wormate in 1989 (the basic one) it was quite expensive at the time at £29.99 from B&Q. Two weeks ago, I replaced the chipboard jaws as they had suffered so much abuse. Then in Aldi, they had a workmate copycat for £16.99, and boy, for the money , it's an ideal second horse.. You seem to be doing an excellent job promoting the trade, so well done, and I might even learn a thing or two from you myself ! Good luck with the channel , oh and worx tools are pretty awesome , although they are getting quite pricey they're still my No1 goto for power tools .
@startmaking12 жыл бұрын
Hi Mickey. Thank you for such a great comment. I remember the workmates. In truth I have been tempted by something like that. I saw the moon vise on another channel and at the time I didn't have a clue about the scope of hand tool woodworking and how versatile it would be. I thought I needed to build an entire workbench with built in vise. (one day I will). I built the original moxon vise as a temporary fix and have not even thought about replacing it since. Funny how we learn and progress. I absolutely agree about worx tools. My drill was £50 and given as a present 5 or more years ago. I use and abuse it and it will not die. I love it. Thank you for watching and I look forward to hearing from you, especially with feedback and recommendations. I have so much to learn for the community.,

Love this great video watched the first one extras are good. 1 tip save buying filer we've always got glue and sawdust I keep different coloured dust's of different species am working with then can match the colour exactly by mixing it with the glue! 🏴👍
@startmaking12 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. Thank you. And a great tip. I have a few pots too of the most popular woods. If you had seen the size of the gaps, it felt like it would have been a lot of mixing. Far cheaper though mind you. Thank you for watching another one. Albeit a re-edited older one.

This is excellent. Gluing to a bench 🤪 at the start. In terms of production, could you start every video with the strap line “let’s start making”. It reinforces the name of your channel and builds consistency of product.

Hi, I’ve just discovered your channel and I’m really enjoying it. The first video I watched was your shed your where you revealed that it was getting replaced. I hope the replacement isn’t too much bigger/posher. The paradox of a woodworking KZbin channel, the more successful it becomes the less relavent it is. Is there a video for the workbench attachment for the vice you show at 8:04? I can’t seem to see it on you KZbin page. Strangely I can’t see the full length moxom vice video on there either but I have watched it.

Hi. Thank you. I was worried by the same problem. As the new shop should have power and more size. That said, I am still closer to beginner than expert so maybe that will keep me relevant. There is a video, it is an old one but this should work. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJa0hWSKr7JgjpY Hope it helps. I still use it .

Hi Stewart. Thank you for your comment. The link here is the site in the UK that I ordered it from .www.wdscomponents.com/en-gb/moxon-vice-hardware-kit-with-ball-handles-wds-3600/c-792/p-38554/v-39189 I have to say that the price has risen since I bought it. Thank you for watching .

Brilliant! I have one on my bench, put this portable vise is going to be great for portability and transport. Thanks for this video. Where did you get your Moxon kit? I like the Taylor Tool kit vs. Amazon.
@startmaking1 Жыл бұрын
I love attaching mine and the bench I made for it, to saw horses. Brilliant in the summer to keep the dust out of the shed. I got the Kit from a UK distributor. Since the video the price has gone up a far bit. I hear a lot about Taylor tools, seems that a lot of youtuvbers are sponsored by them in some capacity. Wish we had a shop like them in the UK, something family run.

Hi Cindy. The hardware was from this link., www.wdscomponents.com/en-gb/moxon-vice-hardware-kit-with-ball-handles Not an affiliate. Seems the price has gone up a fair bit since I bought. Check that you are getting the right size for you as there are a few different ones. Also some ones with cool round handles. PS thank you very much.

I went for the smallest and in fact had to trim the threaded rods down quite a bit. They do a great job of ripping shirts as you pass if you aren't careful. Here is the link to the page I bought from. The price has gone up since I made mine annoyingly. www.wdscomponents.com/en-gb/moxon-vice-hardware-kit-with-ball-handles-wds-3600/c-792/p-38554

At almost £80 that's a bit much. Luckily I'm not quite at the stage of making one. I'm guessing you didn't pay that much?
@grahambutcher67543 ай бұрын
Ok having looked into it a little more they do just cost around that much. Seems a lot but I guess it is a low demand item.
@startmaking13 ай бұрын
Hi Graham. I definitely didnt pay as much as that. Though it was at a time just before every woodworker made one so the cheap kits probably raised their prices as they noticed demand increase. That said, it has been my only vice for 2.5 years now so it has served me really well.
