At what temperature in Celsius did you set the heat gun to weld?

Hi 👋 I usually weld pvc at around 270°C - 280°C. If you have any burning while welding keep turning the machine down a little until you have the plastic melting but not burning, hope that's helpful! Thanks for question 👍

How can you guarantee that will stand up to the pipe's rated pressure?

Hi, you could put it under a standard pressure test to the pressure rating stated on the pipe, on previous projects I've welded PVC pipe and pressure tested, it comfortably held at 10 bar thats with three 3-core filler rod, thanks for the question👍

Or, you could just use proper fittings and PVC cement. A solution in search of a problem.

Hi, that's very true but also manufactured fittings come in fixed sizes, using fabricated techniques just gives you more options, PVC glue is brilliant but it does degrade over time with heat,a fabricated joint will be a strong joint for as long as that pipework is standing, thanks for the comment

@Allkraft Design Fittings are indeed produced in fixed sizes. The same fixed sizes as the pipe they go with. Don't try to make it sound like the manufacturer sells lengths of pipe with no way to connect them. This will fail code inspection in any area that performs one.
