⚠️ God has said in the Quran: 🔵 { O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous - ( 2:21 ) 🔴 [He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him]. ( 2:22 ) 🔵 And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful. ( 2:23 ) 🔴 But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.( 2:24 ) 🔵 And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with a provision of fruit therefrom, they will say, "This is what we were provided with before." And it is given to them in likeness. And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally. ( 2:25 ) ⚠️ Quran

Did you know that you can make 3D Replica's as well? You make a ball out of the silicone and then place your object all the way into the ball so that it is enclosed. Let it cure and then remove it. Once it's removed you dust the mold with cornstarch and pack the 3D mold with air dry clay (or even more of the silicone mixture), let it cure and remove it. if you go to the craft store and into the cake decorating section you can get an idea of what a 3D mold looks like and go from there. I refinish/repair furniture and when I get a piece that has a missing applique or embellishment of some kind, I will mold an existing one so that I can make a repair that matches.

So, in removing the 3d object, I "assume" you have to cut it out? Make a straight cut somewhere on the mold that is in an inconspicuous area? Thanks for the tip!

You dont have to add as much cornstarch if you want a more flexible mold. I use this recipie for my 3d molds, and I learned that the quantity of cornstarch added determines the stiffness of the finished silicone. For me, less cornstarch and a more flexible mold works best. But its a handy tip to know that theres no set consistency you have to acheive with this recipie, the silicone still sets (it just might take a bit longer) and you can acheive the best results for you.

Make a pancake of corn starch on your mixing surface first, then squirt the silicone into the middle of it. Wear nitrile gloves and slowly fold the cornstarch into the silicone, gradually adding more cornstarch and kneading until the consistency is not sticky. Saves you from ruining your forks and messing up your rings. It's a great technique for making inexpensive home made molds. I'm a model builder and have been using it for years for making quick and inexpensive molds for low detail parts. Instead of air dry clay, use plaster. Wet the mold with water mixed with a few drops of dish soap, pour in the plaster. Vibrate the filled mold gently to release any air bubbles trapped on the mold surface, under the plaster. The result is highly detailed castings of the original part. Soak the plaster castings (when fully dry) with watered down PVA or white glue, set aside to dry. This strengthens the plaster, making it a tad more durable.

Thank you for this video, I'd heard of the technique before and rushed right out for silicone and corn starch but then forgot all about it. The molds you made are great and 2 of them would make great barret bases. I work with polymer clay , since this is silicone can I bake my piece right in these molds?

A quick hint on preventing the object from sticking to the mold. I spray some dish soap (mixed with water) onto the objects you are making molds of. Just spray some on, then let it dry. When you make the mold, the object is guaranteed to NOT stick to the mold. It is usually not a problem but every so often the object is made of metal that wants to stick to the silicone. Certain resins and paint can have that quality too.

I repaired an antique mirror about 25 years ago. I made a mold out of modeling clay, and then poured plaster into it, which worked OK, but it was hard to keep it from distorting. This would have been much more stable. And air dry clay would have been sturdier... less breakable. Also it's very carve-able.

Woo! My fiancee had a half used tube of silicone caulking material left over from re-sealing our bathroom and was going to have to toss it soon. I used this method an it worked well! (though the pigment I used was some of a 1lb pound bag of glow pigments from an old resin table top project so figured why not, recycling is best and everything is better when it glows in the dark! I don't know ..you'll have to experiment, but make a silicone mold of a non broken wood embellishments then use saw dust and wood glue mix to make the cast of the piece. You should be able to sand and stain the new casting like wood. It would be worth it if it works.

Thank you so much Deidra! I was just about to spend an Arm and a leg first on Molds and then on a Make your own Silicone Mold Kit. I recently started experimenting& working with Polymer clay and Epoxy resin. Of course I needed molds and like you said they can be very expensive, especially if you want a variety of them like me. I thought there's gotta be a better way like to make my own Silicone molds.And I found a couple different kits that come with the solutions to mix and make the silicone and again that's not cheap either. I was about to spend 50 bucks on this DIY kit and they don't give you a lot unless you want to create miniature molds. Anyway thank you for this awesome tutorial,the tips and advice, I appreciate it bunches!!!!!

Hi! Greetings from Vancouver, Canada. This is my first time watching one of your videos and I liked it so much I subscribed right away. My question is: Would these make food-safe molds? I mostly use silicone molds for chocolate making and you are absolutely right - they are expensive. I have found a few at the dollar store, but I'm limited to what the manufacturer wants you to make. If I can make my own chocolate molds the sky's the limit!

Corn starch in the silicone! That's certainly interesting!! By the way, Silyl Modified Polymer Adhesive Sealant can also be used to make moulds and stamps. It has a number of advantages making it better than silicone. Firstly, it doesn't stink. Note that Silyl Polymer adhesive which you also apply with a caulking gun does not require thickening; it's thicker than silicone. The major reason I stopped using silicone was not because it was soft or because it stank. It was because it shrinks while drying. It is like latex rubber, and I needed it to retain the same size as the original object so I could press paper between the original and the mould (to produce an embossing. Note that silicone doesn't stick to washing up liquid, so if you coat the object first you have a better chance of it not sticking. How do I know this? Basic plumbing, naturally! If you are sealing a pipe or filling the space between tiles in your bathroom, you use washing up liqued to clean it off! I changed however to silyl modified polymer adhesive because although it is a little more expensive, it didn't shrink. Note that with small objects like the ones you used, you hardly notice the shrinkage. But get to making moulds of A6 size, it is noticeable, and with A5 or A4, it is simply intolerable. The mould shrinks to around 1cm smaller. Note that I tried this with standard bathroom silicone. I wonder if corn starch would prevent it from shrinking?. I like the idea of the clay; but I imagine that it would break apart when I try to emboss things with it in either my A3 embosser of my book press. I fear also that as I press the clay into the mould, the mould would stretch meaning that after you pulled it off, the original would be smaller. Here's another tip: silyl polymer adheisve doesn't stick to itself after it has dried, at least if you use different colours and apply a layer of washing up liquid to it. Here's the thing: there's only one thing silicone will stick to reliably: itself. It doesn't matter what you use as a releasing agent.. If you try to make a mould of a mould your efforts are almost inevitably doomed to fail... Modified polymer adhesive/sealant, however, doesn't. So I can make a mould of a mould of a mould!

Does it stick to your hands when you're trying to make molds?
@nachtschimmen
@nachtschimmen Жыл бұрын
@@happy.homestead To make moulds with either silicone or silyl polymer, I fortunately do't need to touch it. I cut out the size a little larger than the object from a piece of cardboard, I place the cardboard on the adheisve side of sticky paper used to cover books, then I place the object in the cardboard in the place I've cut out and which has a sticky bottom. The next logical step is to paint the object with washing up liquid so that the glue won't stick to iit when it dires. I paint the mould and the cardboard surrounding it and I also don't forget the sticky paper. Then I just apply the caulking gun adhesive by covering it with glue,last of all place a sheet of see through plastic/mylar on the top. This way, I never need to actually touch the silicone. I've got a book press, so these days I put this simple sandwich of cardboard frame, glue, object and clear/sticky paper in the press to mmake sure the glue squishes into every last edge of the object and the . But before I had a book press I would press it from above with a die-cut embosser or use two planks and then place a heavy item on them. There are some additional techniques I need to do to make sure there are no air bubbles around the item and underneath the paper sheets, but anyway I just wait until the whole thing has dried, and then take the whole thing out of the book press, pull off the paper sheets. This is, of course, where the technique gets tricky. If I'm making a mould of a mould.... but it's all over when it dried and you're just making a single mould.
@nachtschimmen
@nachtschimmen Жыл бұрын
@@happy.homestead You really have to do your best to not touch the glue espeicially silicone which stinks to high heaven! It's not latex which is not corrrosive and is comparatively unsmelly. Silicone sealant is pretty disgusting and will only wash off by attacking it with the most corrosive cleaning alcohols. The cornmeal solution seems like a curious idea, but if it works.
@nachtschimmen
@nachtschimmen Жыл бұрын
*Another popular name for this specific range of polymer sealants used to make this product is "MS Polymer Adhesives". I've used two different brands and achieved similar results. I had to look this all up, but MS polymer refers to the modified silane/silyl polymer chemical which is combined with other chemicals to produce a relatively odourless adhesive you can (also) make moulds out of. They are seen as the "new" alternative to silicone which is highly toxic.
