I made my own filter by layering 5 pieces of window tinting together. It did work, but I wouldn't rely on it completely protecting my eyes. So I only looked up at it for 5 seconds every now and then.

That would only kind of work if you're in an area where's it's a total eclipse. If not the sun will block you from seeing anything.

If you don't have glasses or can't make a viewer you can even view an eclipse through camera film. My aunt used to live in Kenya and they didn't have solar eclipse glasses or anything like that. So they used camera film and it worked for them

The larger the box and the larger the hole in the tin foil for the sun to sream through the larger the projection. It dies have to be a "tiny" pin size hole. A "pen" size hole in this size cereal box would work fine. Cardboard tubes that are ling is also good because it is farther away.
