I use a wide angle to create fake tilt shifts a fair bit.

I used to do that more than I do now. I always found myself twiddling with the guides way too much afterwards. Nowadays I rarely do any tilt shift shots outside of twilight exteriors where I have the time to use an actual tilt-shift. For other exterior shots where I want to faux a bit of elevation, I'll shoot wide and crop in from the bottom.
