Thanks! I was struggling with this. (The joint always ended up being too thick) The tips on removing the grit are very helpful :)

Making small oddball sized belts and making larger size belts is worth doing. However, the small popular sizes may not be worth the effort. I would say it depends on your circumstances.

use sheldahl tape instead glue, that glued part will tear apart when u press object towards it. i prove it using my sb90, sheldahl tape is more resistant and flat toward object

possibly dumb question but is there a reason it needs to be angled? it would be the same thickness if it wasn't yet all my belts are angled.
@michaelclark28403 жыл бұрын
Its to give greater surface area for gluing but also allows for lead in of the joint into the piece being sanded. If it was a 90 degree join then the whole of the join would hit the workpiece at the same time, stressing the join too much.

As a workshop exercise it's good, but it seems to have had a lot of steps and would have taken an hour at least. That being the case, unless your time is worth less than the cost of by buying the sheets ready made, this is not an efficient use of your time.

That was a pain in the ass. There's this stuff called tape or thin pieces of plastic and pieces of something that you could have used instead of removing the grid from the paper that's already there.

OMG OMG OMG, what's so hard to understand?? There are some places on Earth where there is no other solution and where you have to DIY things like this! There are some places on Earth where is much cheaper to DIY! There are some people on Earth that love to make their own tools, rather than buying! Meaning, there are so MANY reasons why people are choosing DIY, like myself, who can't buy sanding belt with specific dimensions, and have to make one. And that's why I'm here, trying to find best way to make my own sanding belt.
