As for as using the correct plan for the monthly service, can you use this in motion under the $150 “Roam” plan or do you have to switch to “Mobility” and pay the $250

I am on the $150 plan. I installed a switch for the DC-PoE and I only turn it on once I am at an area I want to use it. That said, I do leave it on while driving around the area once I arrive...but that is only in a radius of 10miles or so. I have a dual 5G cell router and roof antennas with ATT+VZW. So, using starlink while in motion isnt much additional benefit to me when driving on main roads and highways. I havent even tried leaving starlink on while driving over large distances. Partly because I dont want Starlink to "catch me" and do something to my account. I dont know what would happen even if they did. I recall seeing a screenshot someone posted saying that service would be disabled until it "stopped being in-motion". My best guess is that they would only be able to detect me in-motion if I move between 2 cells. No way would I be willing to pay $250/mo for starlink in-motion. My ATT+VZW post-paid-premium plans are only $100 combined, and the ATT is truly unlimited and VZW 100GB. I have no reason to fork over another $100. $150 is already expensive compared to my cellular plans. Fwiw I do feel like I am getting more value out of starlink since I can turn it on and off easily with the flick of a switch versus how I used to have to get it out of a bin and put it up and take it down before, I would only put it up when truly necessary. Now I turn it on anytime I am stopped. Sorry I could not answer conclusively. My recommendation would be to make it flat then try using the $150 plan for as long as possible and see what happens. For me, the power draw of the HP flat dish is a deal breaker. Making the standard dish flat is much better for power draw. 😃

Just in the past few days, starlink has changed the terms of service for 'in motion' usage. If you go to their support page and look at the in motion FAQ, it now says that usage of non-HP dish while in motion is "at your risk." Basically, it's allowed and not blocked, nor is it in violation of terms. I have been testing startlink while leaving it on while driving - it works! I was getting between 5-30Mb down and 5-8Mb up. I suspect lower speeds are attributable to 1) traveling into a congested area. 2) obstructions limiting my connectivity to only a single satellite at that moment. I still feel like a hybrid cellular setup is a hard requirement for traveling if you must have very reliable connectivity. Just to leave my neighborhood to get to highway is dotted with many trees. Not till I got on the highway does it connect. Traveling through city streets or urban areas, starlink would really struggle to stay connected. I hope this helps. 👍

@@MountainsCallingMe I have a travel trailer, so my options are hard flat mount it. Turn on the in motion so kids can use iPads etc while driving as well as data when we lose signal. Or remain popping it up when we arrive. Obviously cost is a difference, I’m just speaking what’s easiest for my family. I’m afraid of hard mounting it and then sure enough we park at a campsite under a tree. Lots to think about

@@jbordinhao Star Mount systems sells a magnetic mounting system that might work if your roof is metal - so you dont need to put holes in the roof. They also have a "quick release" setup that could enable you to move the dish to an open area if ever you are under trees. I cannot vouch for either of those things but I would expect they 'work'. I did the temporary setup for 9 months before becoming sick of messing with it. Lots of people do it that way. Best of luck to you as you decide what to do next. 🫡

How long it took to get an IP address? I waited for one hour and nothing 😢

One hour means something is wrong. Does the link light on your router or POE injector light up? In this configuration I normally get a 192.168.x.x IP address within 1-2min. Then it can take few more minutes to obtain a real world IP from starlink and be able to access the internet. The additional time can depend on obstructions/line of sight and how long it has been since the last time I powered on the dish. Is your dish cable plugged into the starlink router or are you using 12V DC POE? If you cut the cable and put an ethernet jack on it, I would cut that off and recrimpt it with a fresh ethernet jack. And doublecheck that you have all the wires in the correct pinout for starlink.

@@MountainsCallingMe I'm not PoEing... I did the conversion to 12v in the dish board (search for Oleg article on Starlink 12v). Does your Ethernet lights go off during the boot process? I receive a 192.168.100.100 IP and I'm able to access the 192.168.100.1 page for a couple of seconds. Then the Ethernet lights go off. Then it comes lit again and I'm able to access the page. This cycle happens for 4-5 times. Then it stabilizes but no IP is assigned and I can't access the status page again. I suspect the wires I used are too thin and can't keep up with the boot process. Thanks for the reply.

@@MountainsCallingMe it was the wiring!

It does require some effort... if your not a "dremel person" or "DIY person" it would be easier and cost only slightly more to ship your dish to them and have them do the conversion.
