I like the breather hose a less complicated solution could be like some sort of valve ? Like that they put inside of electronic skateboard controllers to let air pass through but not water somehow ?

The GORE Polyvent XS, was the best looking option that I found. But you’re right. There’s lots of enclosure vents to choose from. The vent tube was kind of a last minute addition.

It's not a magnet, its a ferrite core designed to clean common mode noise (signal) generated from either a signal line or power cables.

One option to consider - clip your ethernet cable coming out of your polycarbonate, add a RJ45 connector there and then do the same with the cable going into your van, connect them with a barrel. That way you could swap that cable out without taking the whole thing apart - it's unlikely the cable on the inside will have issues.

Wow, Max, only you could confidently cut apart a piece of expensive technology and make it work. You are simply amazing!!!!

That magnet is a ferrite to reduce noise interference form other electrical induced noise from outside sources from other campers/power lines etc..
@missingMBR Жыл бұрын
From what I've read, the ferrite is there for compliance reasons not performance, stopping Starlink from causing cross-talk to other devices. Ethernet cables already reduce crosstalk through having twisted pairs. It's why you don't generally see ferrite beads on ethernet cables.

Just ordered a custom flat mount case for my dish but it came with no instructions. So I've been searching KZbin on howto's. This is by far the best, most detailed and comprehensive, I've found. Thanks heaps! My case supplier uses the POE injector you've used but I'm tempted to give the YAOSHENG a try as I've heard good things.

Glad this was useful to you, that was the idea haha. That POE thingy looks interesting, definitely a time saver if it works

Thank you for sharing, this is amazing. At date time stamp 7:26, I think you got your cables in this order white orange/orange/blue/white green/green/white blue/white brown/brown, it could be my eyes playing tricks, it may be the reason why you were having issues, I'm brand new at this, but thought I'd let you know, just in case.

need to roughen up the acrylic with some sand paper, before you apply the adhesive, so it has something to bond to.

If it’s in the 8020 frame and has clearance I’m wondering if just cutting off the leg would suffice and be less invasive

Nice work! Congrats. How's it working when it rains? Do you have small pools on top of it? Do you recommend to tilt the dish a bit to make it drain?
@dustyodyssey8 ай бұрын
Definitely tilt it a bit. I was having issues with water pooling but after tilting it it works fine even in steady rain.
@Reedith Жыл бұрын
I appreciate the self-made enclosure but I would definitely recommend to just get a star mount systems enclosure just to guarantee the longevity of the dish
@dustyodyssey Жыл бұрын
Star mount has a nice product but it’s not immune to water ingress and condensation issues

Nice video and description. What happens if you use the internet when you are driving? Will it work? Will Starlink claim you for that?
@dustyodyssey Жыл бұрын
It does work in motion, but that violates the terms of service. I have only tested this accidentally when I forgot to turn it off. It does stream music great while driving though. But, I think that may not be reliable, and could get your contract terminated 😅 There is an option in the app to enable "mobile priority data" which charges an extra $2 per GB which gives network priority and allows in motion use. But I haven't tested that feature

Hey man great video! I was wondering if the POE injector would be necessary if I wasn’t converting to DC Power, rather just using a different router than the Starlink router. Would I need the Poe injector since the dish is flat?
@dustyodyssey Жыл бұрын
The starlink router acts as both a Poe injector and power supply for the dish, so if you want to eliminate the starlink router you will need the POE injector

What is the difference between your flatpanel mount and the $2500.00 ESA antenna for the Starlink? Thanks
@dustyodyssey Жыл бұрын
The “high performance flat mount” is bigger which allows it to have a wider field of view so the tilt motors aren’t required. But it also uses a lot more power to achieve that wide FOV (100W+). What I have is not as performant and more likely to see occasional outages. But, in my experience it works flawlessly if you have a clear view of the sky. However, in Alaska the performance has been a little less consistent, and would definitely be better with the “high performance dish” as there are fewer satellites up here
@dennishedrick5308 Жыл бұрын
@@dustyodyssey I guess you are travelling to Alaska from Colorado? I thought you mentioned the video was taken in Colorado. Good to know that there is less service in Alaska. On my bucket list when I retire. Thanks
