Even on my M3 Max, I find Final Cut cannot play my 4k footage smoothly as soon as I enable Dehancer Pro without rendering the timeline first (even without grain/halation/etc), that really slows down the editing process. Is there any solution to that? - or a faster alternative?

Nice! What computer do you use. When a turn on the dehancer on mb M1pro 16 it starts trottling

I have an M1 Max. It really depends on which features you use, some are slower to computer, others are pretty fast. That's another reason to put the effect in an adjustment layer. Disable the adjustment layer while cutting and enable it while doing color or exporting.
