Dude I love this guy, not once have I ever been compelled to spend money but watching this channel to achieve this level of work. He uses consumer level gear and makes movie quality results while half the other guys are dropping 20k and their content is no where near this amazing!

While the excellent techniques mentioned here don't require expensive or extra gear from what you already have, I do argue your "consumer level" and $20k comment. The FX3 itself is a baby cinema camera and marketed at professionals so is decidedly not a consumer level camera. Add up the prices of the gear listed in the description, along with the MusicBed subscription then the total is over $24k. If you also add in the lighting and other gear and software used for this video then it's easily double that. The point should be made that expensive gear doesn't make you a better cinematographer, but it does make doing quality cinematography easier. If this video was done with a sub $2k setup, or with a sub $1k phone then your comments would hold true--but as he notes this is mostly existing client footage and effort wasn't made to shoot dedicated footage for this tutorial.

@@catinmyhat I can agree to that for sure I just like that the videos he make aren’t centered around the gear and more of the creative aspects of it which in my opinion is breath of fresh air and for people just starting out they can watch it and not feel bad because they are using cheaper equipment. I’m not saying the fx3 is cheap it’s just a lot more obtainable then say a red or something else

I wanted to thank you for this comment as well. I just literally told someone 2 mins ago that I want a new lens, I need a new SSD, I need.... I need... I need... and I finally just told him. You know what, I am going to just focus on content and quality with what I have, and do the best I can. I don't have 6-8k to drop on things. So seeing this comment was very synchronistic for me. I will stick with in camera cards and won't worry about bringing my ninja V plus with SSD.

Great tips!!!! I love that you added sound as a way of making images more cinematic but your shots are almost always moving which also makes them amazing, and that often requires a stabilizer.

one thing I learnt from Crafford is frame rate contrast, this is definitely the feature that differate the great film makers out ! and the final goal is too make the scene as dynamic and personal as It should be

I think contrast when it comes to cinematography and creating images that are appealing is more than just creating pockets of light to dark! That's a great step but I think also understanding your contrast ratios in correlation to the scene you wanna shoot will help accentuate your areas of contrast! Also room tone is very important

Thanks for the tips... and that's why all series/movies (mostly) nowadays look... the same? Netflix-ish? Diversity in that regard would be benifitial as well. For example Paul Thomas Anderson movies. Or different colour grading, or light patterns should work as well. But btw it's great tips about lighting

painters are my mentors, I study landscape, cityscape, stills life, and portrait painters and use false color/ el zones, grayscale, and shapes and movement and composition and I realized that the space comes before the subject, You can light a subject and position that subject in the frame using the best composition possible but the space the subject is in can make or break the whole thing if it's not regarded as a high priority, I also hate using too many lights, I prefer 3 maximum if I have to use more than something is wrong.
