I've looked into speed boosters a few times now because I'm considering getting the ZV-E1 for vlogging. However, it's quite expensive, and the main reason I want it is for the full-frame focal length advantage, where a 16mm lens is truly 16mm. My issue is that there aren’t any E-mount to E-mount speed boosters designed to let full-frame lenses retain their full focal length on APS-C Sony cameras. I don’t understand why this type of adapter doesn’t exist…
@thomasjmcclure2 ай бұрын
It’s all about the camera flange distance. The distance between the mount and the sensor. Canon EF has a large flange distance, meaning they can use adaptors and still be able to focus properly because all the glass elements inside the lenses are the right distance from the sensor. There wouldn’t be any space to add a speedbooster element between the sensor and the mount on a Sony E mount if that makes sense
@jeni_alexa16052 ай бұрын
the same question for me..
@geometerfpv28042 ай бұрын
Just to add to this, the reason you can do this at all is because cameras switched from mirrored to mirrorless. So, the mirrored lenses have a larger flange distance because all the mirror mechanics stuff has to be stuck in there. Now, with mirrorless, the lens can. be much closer to the sensor. You can fit an adapter in there to "add back in" the distance that the mirror system would've taken up. So this is why it only works to adapt to older DSLR lens series. But...those lenses are conveniently cheap, and only a few years ago were top of the line.

I use and love my Metabones SpeedBooster. But it does not make my crop sensor Canon Camera FF. What it does do is it "squeezes" the focused light from a FF lens down to APS proportions. This allows you to use the full field of view of a FF lens instead of only a portion of it (so you lose the telephoto advantage). It also increases the brightness of the lens due to the concentration of all that light on a smaller frame, this is a great advantage. It will also, with a very high quality SpeedBooster, ever so slightly give a tiny boost to the image quality. This is because it is like "oversampling" or when you interpret an image to a larger size and the print it at a smaller size. Depth of Field does not change. What makes people think it does is when you use a SpeedBooster you ending up with a wider field of view, so you will likely move in closer. And it is the closer focusing distance that enhances background blur.

@SimplestUsernameАй бұрын
@@thomasjmcclureI just want to reiterate what Isao is trying to communicate. The speed booster is just taking the light that wouldn't have hit the sensor due the crop and correcting it to make it all land on the sensor. The light transmission is increased for an APS-C sensor, but it's the same light transmission as this lens used on a FF sensor. It's actually a little less than FF because the glass in the booster eats a little light.

(en lenguaje fácil, un FF de 23 mm se convierte en un 24 mm, sí, estoy usando tu ejemplo) Mi pregunta viene porque he visto Metabones (antiguos) que no tienen el vidrio.
