"I forgot to do that"? For all the spontaneity of the modular system in general, and these videos in particular, I don't recall ever thinking Walker was wiggling with anything other than absolute intent. Great stuff
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC 6 жыл бұрын
Intent, yes! Execution... maybe didn't quite stick it :) Normally if I make a mistake during a shoot, I either cut it, reshoot, or rewrite the script to accommodate it. In this case, I thought it was important to have a single long cut. Perhaps nobody would have noticed that I was adjusting the Y knobs even when they weren't doing anything, but I think it's worth acknowledging that mistakes can be made and it's ok. In fact, in this case, I think the patch was improved by delaying that patch connection and letting the Y channel only produce low bass notes at first. Thanks for watching! - W

@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Just watched and asked me all time, who the hell is there a melody coming out of osc 2 with no cable patched in :-D as there was this nice modulation going, I thought I'd already hear the second vco because of that. Thought about if there was a new revision with some v/oct normalization :-D made me smile when you mentioned the missing connection. But as you said, it may have improved the record as the patch got more time to evolve. Making mistakes with modulars is part of the game:-)

When you said the oscillators are tuned to the sound in the morphagene, does that mean that you set the varispeed to the correct position (where the dpo is in tune with the sounds at that speed), and use the latest firmware to track 1V/oct on the corresponding cv input?
@robertsyrett1992
@robertsyrett1992 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that was the most interesting part of the patch for me. I didn't know you could use the morphogene as a synth voice, I thought it was only a sound mangler.

MAKEN0ISE Might there come an update that makes the 1V/Oct work at full knob clockwise? I saw some comments under videos asking for an easier way to hit 1V/Oct exactly. You posted me a nice explanation a few months ago, but it is hard with things that can not be tuned with a tuner.
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC 6 жыл бұрын
We tried this during development, but unfortunately it can't account for the tolerance of potentiometers and so it would not work correctly on every Morphagene.

@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Couldn't a "dead zone" be mapped to the last 1/8th of the knob's travel to account for the variation in potentiometers?

No, because this has to do with the attenuverter, which is an analog control.

Can you PLEASE PLEASE do a totally beginner series of videos on how modular stuff like gates, triggers, clocks and envelopes behave with CV and Make Noise modules? Your videos are great but assume a very advanced level of modular synthesis! Beginners new to the Make Noise modules that are not clear like a standard VCA, EG, VCO and so forth like myself have trouble understanding the non standard way.

How many bars can a normal sequence be? Not talking about generative/cartesian patching. For example if i want to make a 4 bar loop consisting of 16th and 8th notes. Could I do that? How do you change the pattern length? I assume you can make it so 16 steps is 16x16th notes in 1 bar, but can you swipe somehow and create another bar? Im a bit confused on the more simple sequencing tasks of the module.
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC 5 жыл бұрын
The way to make "longer sequences" is to chain States together. Each State can contain different programming for all three channels, and you can switch between States manually or via clock and CV. See the following video for a detailed introduction to States. Starting around 7:30 is an example of using States for key changes, while re-programming the States on the fly during sequencing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmmyamdmqc6nl9U

MAKEN0ISE ah okay so you could have for example 4 states of the basic linear pattern (step 12345 etc) be 1 bar each w 16 steps per bar?
@michaelandersen9579
@michaelandersen9579 5 жыл бұрын
@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC What Im really asking if it has musicality and rhythm in traditional sense. In the entire manual i found nothing abour beats and bars. I would of course need it to play in beats and bars to sync up with my other sequenced sounds from other sequencers. A situation could be I have a drumloop and need a 2 bar melody to loop. So how much is a bar and how much is a beat? Can you make it so one state is a bar and then when that bar is played it will play the next one and then back to the first for example?
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC 5 жыл бұрын
@@michaelandersen9579 Yes, you can do this. The reason it's not discussed in those terms in the manual is that the René is non-prescriptive in terms of rhythm. It does not have an onboard clock. You would use a clocking module, for example TEMPI. Say you want René to clock at 16th notes, you could set a TEMPI channel to output at x4 to clock the René, and another TEMPI channel at /4 to Z-MOD once per bar, stepping through any number of enabled States, one per bar.
@michaelandersen9579
@michaelandersen9579 5 жыл бұрын
@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Ahh okay so its a matter of simple clever clocking. So whenever the clock ticks its a step and whenever the other clock ticks its a bar and then you just do the math. Imagine the answer was so simple.. Well im very excited as this was the only thing holding me back from getting it! One last thing though - can you limit the number of active states that the Z clock scrolls through? So you arent forced to have a 64 state long loop everytime (i know you can just duplicate your loop 64 times but thats a bummer). For example if you want a 3 bar/state loop or a 50 bar/state loop etc etc Thanks a lot for fast replys
