Designers Kelly Lynn Armstrong and Laura Collins of LC & Kel Interiors take you inside this sweet family home in the Beaches neighborhood of Toronto. The homeowners wanted to add value to the house, which was built in 1906, so Kelly Lynn and Laura opened up the main floor to maximize flow and function. The handsome fireplace and built-in storage in the living room got a dramatic facelift with a coat of charcoal gray paint, while textiles and mementos from the family's travels make the space feel more personal. For a high-contrast look, the designers added black honed marble on the dining room console, which also boasts a bar fridge and wine storage. Plus, the principal bedroom's beachy vibe will inspire you to escape to the seaside.

Is it wise to have a wine rack and wine fridge near the heat source (radiator)? Wine prefers cool, dry places.

I'm thinking this home is either in Canada or somewhere northern. I'm from Florida. And growing up "coastal" was navy and white or even the dreaded (to me) light blue, flamingo pink or peach. So this home was a bit of a relief for me. I like that the homeowners made it their own and opened the space up. Also painting the vanity and adding gold dots to the wall of their daughters room is such a nice touch. I'm currently wanting a vanity like that. I did wonder if they had to update the bathrooms since it is an older house? But overall I like the space. And I think it's important to have a home reflect the personality of the homeowners. And the dog is a cutie.

I think the fireplace in the lounge area (which is supposed to be the main focal point) could've been turned into something more interesting than just painted bricks and shelves. Moreover It is a bit of a mystery to me how a family of four plus a dog can live with that white upholstered sofa...

She put wine racks and beverage cans right next to a radiator?? I see some beach color but next to zero aquatic or nautical accents. You can be subtle, no lighthouses, mermaids, and life preservers like its a seafood restaurant. But there's a difference between subtle and non-existent. I'm seeing more inland tribal than coastal motif. I want elements that speak of beach glass, dune grass, and sun bleached wood.

You talk about walls & removing them _but_ than you _NEVER_ show us what you've done. Is there a support beam? A post? An odd corner wall? What's it look like after opening up both of those walls?? (You're killing my OCD 😂.) Walls are _usually_ a _huge_ chunk of a budget. Director NEEDS to instruct camera guy/gal to SHOW EVERY SPACE. You keep missing it in EVERY shot! Pan the camera around 360° *argh. Your wonderful contractors & crews have done a beautiful job, show us!! Thank you for sharing this _gorgeous_ home. 💋🇨🇦

This is a constant running no-gap-for-breathing commentary as if she's just done the Sistine Chapel yet these are just pleasant unexceptional interiors with nothing particularly unusual or amazing. Everything looks designed, as if it's brand new and out of a shop, I could not tell you much about this family. There's nothing wrong with it but there are millions of regular homes like this.

Congratulations. You have successfully renovated all of the charm out of a 1906 home. Good job! Now it looks like 2006. I will never understand why people insist on blowing everything open into one big space. Removing those French doors between the living room and dining room? Criminal. They were so charming and appropriate to the period and added a much needed architectural detail. And I loathe that built in credenza with the black marble and the wine cooler thing. I think it makes the room look like a meeting space in a hotel. Sure, it may be functional, but there was a missed opportunity for a really fabulous piece of furniture that was interesting instead of the MOST generic counter top you could ever build. Yeah. No. And then of course they open the kitchen up to the entire space. How unique. Boo. If you want a brand new open concept home go find one, but to do this to an old charming home is really sad. IMHO. Not a fan.
