Its this stuff that makes you top notch bro. Getting into the why you should do something as opposed to what you should blindly. This is definitely where I need the most help. Please more of this, getting in the weeds!

Great video Austin! Number 3 about mixing as you produce the track is a great point to make and something I've never seen anyone mention before. This was a game changer for me when I stopped doing it, and you're right it's a trap I think a lot of self producing artists and remote producers fall into

The part regarding learning your plug ins is extremely necessary! I'm guilty because it's so easy to fall into good marketing without realizing you likely have all the things it may do already but just don't know it enough to tweak it! 👍🏽

Austin!! Thank you so much for this video... I literally have done//sometimes still do all these at certain times. I'd say on the 1st mistake - giving myself grace to know that just cause I record the vocals at that stage doesn't mean that I can't go back later and add additional elements.

I'm very much guilty of making the 2nd mistake haha. Would be great if you could make a video on how to eq drums,vocals,bass,synth,etc and also explain why you did that , would help out a lot of people like me to make better eq decisions based on the song

Could you do a video on how you approact leveling and frequency slotting basically as you add things to your mix? Your channel's one of the best on KZbin.

Hey Austin, awesome videos I just went into a rabbit hole and watched like 15 of your vids so thank you! I'd love to see you challenge yourself a bit on a video and step outside of your comfort zone by producing a dark synth pop/techno pop style track like Kelly lee Owens, Thom Yorke etc...Idk Just a thought!

Great video, great channel! Still i'm having a hard time wrapping my head around what appears to be the natural workflow of a production as far as MPM is concerned: producing a demo, which is then sent to someone to "write over it"... I'm working with a handful of taltented pop artists, who write their own songs. So most of the time I receive their demos (usually piano and vocal or guitar and vocal) and my job is to create an arrangement "under" it... I'm really hoping to see a tutorial on this (more taditional, but not outdated) workflow some day!
@MakePopMusic2 жыл бұрын
I work in all kinds of workflows. Every project is different! I can do a video about how I collaborate and work with all of these different artists and styles if that would help 😁
@ferienambalkon2 жыл бұрын
@@MakePopMusic Yes, I know you do and I appreciate it a lot! Yet, I think there is a big difference between two major types of workflow: creating harmonies and a beat and a song structure for someone to write a vocal melody and lyrics over it vs. getting a full-fledged song, all parts and lyrics written and creating an arrangement for it. Both are valid strategies, but - due to obvious reasons - it's harder to find tutorials on the second type of approach...

Great video! The example for mistake 4 where you showed no processing vs processed was night and day to me. I noticed that the unprocessed version was how most of the projects I work on sound. I would love to get a more in depth look at how you fit elements together as you are producing to get that complete cohesive sound. Thank you for all of information and knowledge you give for free!

UA QUAD, logic pro x, HA 81 preamp. Incoming signal has this thin digital almost doubling sound effect. Last time I heard this i found it was because I had the "software monitoring" checked in logic. Ive unchecked that but now it seems to still be there/comeback. Anyone have any feedback?

When we gonna have a country pop song tutorial ?
@HaydenCraig0002 жыл бұрын
Following your videos I feel like you process your mixer tracks with quite a few things sometimes. A lot of the tutorials I follow will claim that you should have barely any effects on them. I do feel like your stuff sounds better though because of it. Do you have an opinion on this? Do you think there's such a thing as too many plugins or effects on something?
@MakePopMusic2 жыл бұрын
Yeah! There’s a difference between “mixing” and building a sound during the production phase with some “mixing” built in. Most of the FX I have are always doing creative decisions more than just “fixing” things or “mixing” things. I think you should just do whatever the song needs. Whether that’s not using any plugins and FX, or loading up 300 tracks with 10 inserts a piece. No such thing as too many plugins as long as you know what you’re doing, and why you’re doing it.
@MakePopMusic2 жыл бұрын
Also, my tracks are never rendered or bounced, and most other tutorials (at least the ones from pros where the songs actually sound great) don’t have many inserts because those tracks have already been printed and committed along the way, so there’s no real way to know what they really used, and when in the process they used it.

Mistake 2 I would actually argue is something that beginners need to do themselves to find out how it doesn’t work and why.
@MakePopMusic2 жыл бұрын
True, but I wouldn’t say that’s FOLLOWING advice blindly. That sounds like hearing something, trying it, and then evaluating how that serves you (which is the perfect formula for learning in my opinion). Try everything, “follow” nothing.
