I’ve found that a mixture of minor and major chords does for the most part sound best. My teacher who had a MSc in music theory confirmed that it was not “wrong” having major chords to a minor melody. So work in the “template” believing is not “allowed” to have M for m, is a beginner’s fear that truly can hinder the noble result. There are rules, but not as many believe.

One thing (that is not really clear in the video) is that due to how a keyed instrument work, you will (almost) always move your fingers the shortest distance required between chords. In my opinion, that usually the first thing that gives away a beginner player. Due to voice leading it will also often sound better… 😛

It's astounding that Cubase does not show in realtime what chords are being played, the way EZKeys or Logic does. I bought MIDIculous just to be able to have this feature!

I have a way for the chords to sound fuller, just paste it 1 octave up and 1 octave down creates a full and dramatic melody

Theory and knowledge is important, but that's doesn't mean that following "rules" would write a great song, without involving you into a process. Firstly you should hear a vibe, to hear you need to understand whats sounds good, and whats not ) Great video.
