As a scuba diver, this was really "woah". I have no words to describe it. Anyway, I definitely believe Gabe is GUILTY. Firstly, as a "rescue diver", he would have learned how to "avoid" these 3 (THREE) dangerous situations. FIRSTLY, Tina's heart condition would require for her to get a medical certificate from a doctor to justify that she was fit to dive. Gabe completely ignored this, so it was a super red flag. Yeah, he does what she likes doing so she "should" do what he likes doing too, but not to the extent of putting her life in danger. SECONDLY, Gabe refused to have a guide. In my experience, I rarely let any divers go without a guide, especially when there is someone as inexperienced as Tina on a dive. Of course, we would "trust" that their buddy would take care of them but Gabe obviously took care of her in a different way. THIRDLY, the extra weights Gabe requested were completely unnecessary. After you reach a certain depth in the water, it would just get very easy to sink even with the regular amount of weights. ///I believe Tina's dad did the right thing going around asking relevant questions to relevant people, because yes, accidents can happen on a dive, sometimes they can be fatal. In this situation, there are many factors that factor into the death of Tina, she could have had an episode underwater and lost consciousness. BUT AGAIN, Gabe is supposed to be this rescue diver with over 50 dives. While we are taught to first keep ourselves safe and then aid others, I don't believe that Gabe was in any sort of danger to just "drop" her and surface. BUDDIES SURFACE TOGETHER UNLESS ONE OF THE OTHER IS NOT COOPERATING. Gabe is totally guilty imo. Can't change my mind. I've "lost" divers in a terrible current and I had a boat drag me around to find them. Gabe is an INSULT to the dive community.

Absolutely agree. I’ve logged hundreds of dives and his behavior was murderously negligent at best. The weight issue is a common pattern with newer/anxious divers… ALWAYS use a guide when acclimating to a new area… 50 dives is low (IMO) to be certified as a “Rescue Diver”… UGH.

I’m a open water rec diver and know many rescue divers. A close friend of mine husband is a rescue diver. I’m a dive instructor which means I’m able to teach dive students, I’m also a qualified scientific diver and have done some commercial diving. I’ve dived in Aus & live in NZ. 9kg of weight (20 pounds) is way too much especially for a small girl. I use around 9kg+ when I have a super thick wetsuit and I’m diving in 10 degree Celsius water not the tropics. 15 ocean dives is NOTHING. He was very inexperienced BUT someone we teach in rescue courses is how to save someone who is conscious underwater, unconscious underwater, conscious on the surface and unconscious on the surface. The protocol is different for conscious divers as it could put you in danger yourself due to irrational and aggressive behaviour, an unconscious diver gives you no immediate threat or danger therefore there is no reason what so ever not to grab or help an unconscious diver. You learn to grab them in a number of different ways, the most common from behind, drop their weights and hold their breathing apparatus in their mouth. It’s suspish, he knew this and he let her die for sure.

My first thought about the hugging thing: sounds like someone that doesn’t feel "normal" emotions not knowing how someone would act in this situation. "Oh! I’ve seen people hug when they’re upset, so I’ll do that." Reminds me of cases I’ve read about where in the perp’s search history is stuff like "how do people act when their wife dies" so they can attempt to pretend to be distraught when they’re so narcissistic that they’ve never felt distraught or even worried about anyone.

I am a divemaster in Townsville, Australia - and have worked for the company this happened at and other local companies - I’ve dived this site MANY times and Tinas story is told by visitors all the time! The new rules around this dive site are no “new” divers are allowed to dive because of currents. But someone with 9 dives could potentially have the 2nd level certification of “advanced diver”, being a rescue diver with only 15 ocean dives is crazy, and so unlikely to happen. This whole story for me just screams red flags, what Gabe did (in all versions of his story) goes against all training that divers do! Even taking your eyes off your buddy while replacing your regulator long enough that they sink out of risk is insane!? It’s such a quick fix/and a skill that is taught and retaught at each level of training. I am always so shocked and confused about the fact he wasn’t charged with anything in Alabama! Thanks for covering this story, loved binging your videos over the past 48 hours and glad to see this one pop up!!!!!

he should've at least been found guilty of manslaughter in Alabama for being a certified rescue diver and shirking his responsibility of properly rescuing a diver!!

I have gone diving a few times and they DRILL into you how to replace your regulator and not panic (like this dude claims to have panicked)

I’ve only taken a couple dive classes (couldn’t continue because it made my asthma act up) and I could have sworn that literally the 2nd thing I learned was what to do to get the respirator back in if you lose it. It was like: Lesson One- this is how you breathe. Lesson Two- if your respirator comes out, this is what you do.

I don’t know all the legal stuff - could he be charged for something he allegedly did in Australia in Alabama? Shouldn’t he be charged in Australia? Curious.

I know nothing about diving. But when I heard this story on the news, I knew he was responsible for not even attempting to help her.

Perhaps the judge said the father's conversation with his daughter would be heresy? But I also think there's another rule that concerns people who have died?
@sarahmant37454 жыл бұрын
T Angle do you mean “hearsay”? If it was a conversation between Gabe and Tina’s dad, it should be a viable point of evidence. Hearsay is when a third party that didn’t actually witness the conversation would have reported it. I bet Gabe had connections and there were some back room dealings going on.

@@sarahmant3745 the conversation was between father and daughter, and there is only one party alive to confirm that claim

I’m from Australia and remember this being a big story here too. The part that makes me angry is if he was charged here he would at least do time, but because they insisted on taking him back, he gets cleared. Something suspish big time!

Maybe he asked for hugs while on that other boat in case someone saw him bear hug his wife and could explain it by saying, "Well, I'm just a big hugger...ask anyone on that boat."

Too many red flags with that guy. Trying to ask her out when she is in a relationship, not worried about her safety, taunting her with a wedding ring. Also, she is way to pretty for him.

@@Peanut_taco_muffin Thank you so much, it really really bothered me. I just couldn't fathom the pain and complete disregard for the life that he had took away. They will never get their daughter back. It's just disheartening and sad. Hugs and blessings to you Britt Conester ♥
