I have a question, why just don’t adopt newborns if those kids aren’t biologically yours anyway?
@peacechickification9 ай бұрын
@@streamsan580there’s a growing movement that feels that adoption of infants is unethical. It’s a super coercive industry that takes advantage of women in precarious situations. And that it’s still fundamentally traumatizing for the infant to be taken away from bio mom, even at birth. Not only that, but just because the child isn’t genetically the mothers, doesn’t mean that she wouldn’t want to carry and birth the child if given the opportunity. Especially if there isn’t that genetic bond, I can see wanting to have that experiential bond.
@folkmama39854 жыл бұрын
I am from an egg donor. It is a complicated and emotional issue for everyone involved. Personally, it caused me some confidence issues growing up because I didn’t understand why I was the way I was (apart from my father). It wasn’t until I met my at biological mother at 18 that I began to understand who I am. Genetics play a large role in who and how you are (ex. I’m terrified of flying and no one in my family is, my dad was literally a pilot at one point but then I learned that all the women on my bio-moms side are terrified of flying too). To the people commenting that it is horrible to choose the eggs you want (for whatever reason), I have to disagree. The woman who grew and raised me wanted a child who resembled her in both intellect and appearance. She couldn’t have children of her own so the next best thing for her was to choose someone like her so she felt less alienated. Also if you’re paying the amount you do to have a child per egg donation, you want some say in the lottery which is creating a child. It’s not a designed baby because no one can predict every attribute from an egg and a sperm. This is just my experience but ultimately we shouldn’t shun people for their choices, whether it be adopting, egg donation, traditional ways or not having children at all.

@Ro se Both the egg and sperm are cells called gametes. They cannot divide or reproduce on their own. When the egg and sperm combine, they form a cell called a zygote. That tiny cell may divide many, many times and form an embryo, and after further growth and cell division can form a fetus.
@laurenlewis68385 жыл бұрын
+Heyitskeri that's is very very untrue. I'm not saying this to be rude, but I would really recommend reading some sciencetific texts about how embryos and fetuses form. Both sperm AND egg are needed to form an embryo. An embryo is made of 50/50 genetic material from sperm AND egg.

I did egg donation back in 1999. Back then i only paid 5,000$. The paperwork was intense and personal. The medical side was grueling for me ,dealing with the intense increase and decrease of hormones. I forgot to say i did this in Chicago. Sounds like things are pretty much the same. They matched me with a couple,that the wife had similar traits as me. Im tall , Italian an artist. I have dark hair, olive complected, hazel eyes. I remember it asking what my favorite movie and book are. Favorite foods, hobbies, personal views on things. Left handed...like i said very detailed and I can understand why. At the time i already had 2 girls and I was 25 years old. I don't regret my decision to donate eggs. You did an amazing job describing the experience you didn't mention the hormonal part but maybe not everyone experiences that. The only thing I ever have thought about is what if my daughter ends up dating or god forbid marrying her half brother. I was informed my couple did conceive a son they were nice enough to tell me. They also wanted me to do it again 3 yrs later but i didn't have it in me emotionally or physically so i didn't choose to.

In Oregon women are so impoverished they often sell their infants on the open market surrogates are legal. Some gals are so poor they sell babes so they and partner can purchase a home to live. I heard about 80,000 a child and many of the "buyers" are wealthy Cali couples who come up specifically for the infant trade off and adoption. The buyers for the child send sperm and the surrogate performs the process. Some states allow this as legal, others do not.

I considered doing this all through my 20s. Where I'm from (CA), being Asian attending a top university means $$$. But the possibility of developing health problems (I don't know how rare or not it is) after the procedure always made me leary. And now I'm too old to be considered! That said, I want to foster-to-adopt (since now I'm leary of paid adoption agencies... those documentaries about women in developing nations popping out babies for money is absolutely NOT the reason why I wanted to adopt... I don't blame impoverished women for making that hard decision BTW, but I blame systems for exploiting people in vulnerable situations). ANYWAY good luck to anyone who wants to become an egg donor, I hope you get chosen and I hope this ends up being a great experience for you. PS. It seems irresponsible that some of your agencies didn't provide you with a tax form come tax time. It's not necessarily their job to tell you in advance that it's taxable (everyone should just know that any money exchanged officially and not "under the table" is almost always going to be reported to the IRS), but they should have provided you a tax form to file your taxes. That's annoying and an expensive lesson to have to learn for a young person who is doing this for the first time. Glad you're sharing your experience! It's so incredibly thorough.

True, but these young women might not be aware of the potential long-term side effects of these ovulation-stimulating injections they're receiving, especially when they are "donating" (strictly it ain't a donation since it's remunerated) their eggs multiple times... In France, that's where I'm from, an egg donation is A DONATION, therefore, you don't get paid for it, well because it's called a DONATION lol. It's seems that in the USA you're SELLING your eggs, and that is a big problem in my opinion, a sort of commercialisation of your own body (just like gestational surrogacy I must say, illegal in France), an open door to multiple drifts and abuses....

The genes of father & mother will in big part determine what child would be like in personality, sporty, musical etc. Alot i suppose would also depend on external factors while child grows up on what type person they would become. But picking an egg donor could be to pick same race, eye/hair colour etc so child do somewhat look like the mom that needed the egg donated.
@laurenh16625 жыл бұрын
Genetics have a lot bigger impact on personalities and characteristics than a lot of people realize - it’s not crass to want to set your child up for success! If the parents already know one set of DNA going into the procedure - AKA the sperm - they may want the genetics of the egg to either complement or counterbalance specific qualities in their own DNA. It’s their own prerogative going into a procedure like this and there’s nothing wrong with that.
@reinal78965 жыл бұрын
Maisy Blair Genetics actually play a large role in personality and intelligence. Besides, it’s normal to want control over these things (at least somewhat). From an evolutionary and biological standpoint- we are all judging our partners. It is normal for people to settle down and “mate” with people that they feel have good qualities.

This is the second video I've seen about egg donation on KZbin in the last couple of days. The first video was about a woman whose daughter died of colon cancer, the daughter has done egg donation. This woman had a logical approach, she didn't immediately think there was a connection until she read about another woman who had died of colon cancer after doing egg donation. This woman was saying that there is no evidence of a link to anything, but then again there hasn't ever been any research into links to anything like colon cancer. The woman was more talking about the lack of research into connections with medical conditions like colon cancer.

I find it really bizarre that it's still coined as a 'donation' if you are getting paid for it, and at first I thought this video would be about 2 different subjects 1. making $10,000 from doing something or other and 2. egg donation info. So I have learnt something today! I'm never going to use my eggs so I wish I could get some money from them to set myself up, that would be amazing! This video is so comprehensive, thank you
