Interesting video. I reform .223. brass the other way to make cheap .222Rem brass , it works for me just sort out by headstamps. Have the occasional dimpled case from excess case lube but they are still useable.

No issues thus far. It does appear though that trim length is quite important. I’ve found that, on initial reforming of the brass, I have to trim them as short as I possibly can. Once fire-formed, there doesn’t seem to be an issue. I anneal them after the first firing, and give them a little trim each time round, and haven’t run into any problems yet. If they crack, just toss them; a lot of them come from old 223 brass that was heading for the bin anyway. And I’ve found no issue with shooting performance, so all good so far…

Do you have a list of brass that works best, I have a mix of 6 or so head stamp 223 (mostly ADI and Sako ) I’ve picked up at the local range. I understand some can have a too thick of neck size once a projectile is fitted.

I’ve done PPU, ADI, Frontier, Winchester, Remington, Hornady, Norinco and a couple of others that I don’t even know the make of, and I’ve not had an issue with any of them. So far, I’ve done them all the same way, and they all load up well, they all feed, they all go BANG, and they all extract. 300 Blackout brass can be a bit hard to ring, and somewhat pricey if and when you can get it. Doing this with 223 brass makes it a cost-effective exercise, and it’s not the end of the world if you lose a couple of pieces of brass in the bush. And I’ve experienced no issues with performance.

Have you had any neck cracks due to not annealing the brass after fire forming? I necked 308 down to 7mm-08 and nearly all of them cracked after one shot.

Haven’t loaded or fired any yet. Haven’t even got the rifle yet. Hopefully next 2 weeks, then the load testing and development starts. We’ll see how they go. They will definitely get an anneal after firing. Either way, it should be an interesting exercise.
