Making a 2 string musical instrument out of coconut and wood

I made this acoustic instrument using half a coconut and spruce. It is inspired by the Greek small bouzouki we call baglama in our country.

Favourite bits - gluing the linings in; carving the tiny top-brace; the clamping caul with a simple (wouldn't just drilling a hole of the same diameter work too); and of course playing it at the end. I love that modal sound! Thanks again mate!

Yes but aren't most instruments just mass produced nowadays. Ones made by artisans and craftsman are an acception though.

With that much work crafting the neck and body, I would have used a larger coconut and put at least 3 or 4 strings, but it had a fun sitar sound to it, especially playing that Middle Eastern scale.

@@lnkkkkkkkkkk You are the ignorant one, he is right. Often indians use Middle Eastern scales(HMM...WONDER WHY). The song he was playing was from the start of a song by Markos Vamvakaris, a Greek. It is neither Middle eastern nor indian, it is Greek.(tuned similar to baglamadaki)

In south India it is called coconut shell violin and yiu can see street vendor selling it. It can play movie songs and it comes with a bow.The great violin maestro Kunnakkudi Vaidyanathan sometimes played this violin in his concerts just for fun.In his hands this violin can play like a real violin. Such was his talent.
