After watching your 2024 Thanksgiving $20 Dollar Tree video, I had to watch some of your previous videos. You have done a fantastic job of presenting economic ideas for holiday meals that still present well and taste good. Such a great idea to share these, especially with the financial difficulties that so many families are facing currently.

Thanks to watching you, now I want to go shopping at Dollar Tree, I have been avoiding it because my Agoraphobia holds me back from many things, but now I WANT to go. I have also cut down the number of options I make. I grew up in the 70's and was taught to cook for 6 people, even though there are only 2. So thank you. I am learning grocery saving tips and getting exposure therapy for my Agoraphobia. Hugs from WI

I’ve seen that she’s done several meals for two people. She did one for Thanksgiving this year that was for two people and was $10 for the full meal including an apple cobbler. I grew up in a family of five hearty eaters and now I’m on my own. So I get that! A lot of her meals can also be frozen for a future meal. While I have not been diagnosed with agoraphobia, I have been with generalized anxiety and social anxiety. I’m also an extreme introvert, so I can sympathize. Best time to go to the dollar tree is early early in the morning before all the rest of the people get up. Sometimes I was the only person in the store and it was wonderful😊.

I have the same diagnosis you do. It is hard for most people. Who don’t have these conditions. To understand how hard things can be. I probably do have some sort of undiagnosed panic disorder. If I am going to be gone from my house. More than few days I start to get very anxious. Trying to figure out ways to get out of going. It started in my 20s. Now I am 51 and it has never gotten any better.

Hopefully it gets better for you. I have social anxiety so being around people and having to talk. Is not easy late at night I used grocery shop. Because all the people make me anxious. Sending hugs from Illinois.

I am always so impressed by your budget dinners. I do not have to shop for food at Dollar Tree or Dollar General but I do go in and buy some products in the food aisle I love when they get the special items in and some of the items are very good like the Bake House "thin mint" girl scout knock offs Do you have a video of your best recipes ? Like the best of 2023 I find after I watch I cannot find the recipes I want to try ;-) Also something for a few people that might benefit from, yesterday Walmart here had 50% off turkey breasts that were part of the Thanksgiving and Christmas over buy I bought two big turkey breast for 10 dollars. That was a great deal. I kept thinking of people who struggle and how this would have helped them so much. Thanks for your videos.

If you can't find Margarine, look for olive oil, or pretty much any oil. It can be used as a substitute in many recipes. Also, Applesauce can be used as a substitute for eggs in many baked goods.
@janetdw26 күн бұрын
I have used flavored yogurts as a substitute for eggs and some baked goods. I was on Nutrisystem for a while and they had a pancake mix that made like two pancakes and I added some Craisins and mixed berry yogurt to the consistency of a muffin batter and it worked out great. Next time I measured so that I could make it again with Bisquick but of course I can’t find the proportions now but it should be easy enough to figure out. It made six muffins and it was perfect for me and my mom on Christmas day.

I love spinach dip, thats a neat idea to bake it with a biscuit collar! my family is burned out on greenbean casserole for thanksgiving I made green beans and onions with diced ham, I think the cans of diced ham at DT would be skimpy but probably add a good amount of flavor.. of course you had ham as the meat so thats probably not an option for this meal.. Maybe chop up the deli ham and heat it in a brown sugar and pineapple sauce ... hhhmmm I like that

There are things with (uk food price) I would do to improve this nutritional value but it is much better than the thanksgiving meal. Instant mash for 4 costs £1 in the uk, a 2kg bag of spuds is £1.35! Which if mashed (can leave the skins on good for you, or roast the skins separately yum!) with a tub of marg, lard, oil or butter you can get mash for 10 for about £2-3 £2 with lard or oil, £3 with butter. The casserole, I think we British prefer just boiled veg with our roast meal so you could get a couple more bags of frozen veg for the price of the soup, maybe enough for 10 people, stuffing we would keep the same though we like to put ours in the oven to get it a bit crispy. Dessert is good, could maybe be done cheaper with just a bag of flour some of the marg bought for the mash, could make the dough for your ‘biscuits’ that way too which would be cheaper than a ready packet. These are just some ideas to get a bit more nutrition in for your money but still have happy full people. It depends on food costs in your country, and of course your ‘ability’ be it can I afford to have the oven on, do I have an oven or do I have arthritis (e.g.) and cutting potatoes/making dough etc is too difficult. So there are times when prepacked is the way to go, but in the uk atleast, a just add water packet, esp for more than 4 people, if you are feeding 10, a bag of flour and some oil is much cheaper, and better for you, lard would be even better for you and cheaper but most people don’t like lard.

You do a great job getting a whole dinner for such a great price! However, I have a question, or two. How much additives are added in these mixes that will make a person like me who is sensitive to all additives added to nearly all prepackaged foods? I cannot eat most prepackaged products because of all of the additives that are placed in prepackaged foods that make said prepackaged food taste good for an extended shelf life. To get the same foods in whole, fresh foods, would cost me very much more than what you can do using dollar store’s prepackaged foods. I remember what it was like to be able to eat prepackaged foods and not be sick for weeks after eating them. Sometimes I wish I could go back to those days where my money and budget would actually buy us a whole Christmas dinner! Our family doesn’t go for the whole Christmas dinner and dessert anymore. Although, I have been able to add back dessert in the form of a sweet potato pie! I found a recipe from decades ago that makes the pie from scratch. It’s wonderful to have a sweet at the end of our Christmas dinner, once again! You are doing a great job for a great many people! I know of many people who follow you and are now having Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners again, because of what you do! Keep up the great work! You are helping so many people have a much better Thanksgiving and Christmas just by having great family meals they can afford and with a great selection too!!

Hmm. Cream of chicken soup tastes like Christmas/Thanksgiving to me. Maybe canned chicken or lunch meat chicken or turkey and cream of chicken soup together could replicate the flavor of turkey and stuffing. Also if an oven is not available for green bean casserole, toasting the French fried onions in a skillet with a bit of oil before topping the casserole would give the oven baked appearance.
