The crystal is not were the energy comes from, there is a battery cell in the lower part of the hilt.
@banjobill84208 жыл бұрын
The crystal channels and intesifies the energy from the batteries otherwise the saber would be about as harmful as a flashlight
@jonas10151198 жыл бұрын
Deadly Cuddles Yes, but the energy doesnt come from the crystal itself. Strictly speaking it would first go through the primary crystal, the red one in the middle is just the focus crystal, who gives the color and allows for adjustments in length, strength, etc

@FearGFX8 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the fanboyish correction but the energy for the lightsaber doesnt come from the crystal, it comes from a Diatium power cell. The crystal focuses the energy into a beam and gives special properties to the blade depending on the properties and origin of the crystal.

Is that printer fine on that wobbly table as they're bumping it, or is this printing technology durable enough to handle it?

Sounds like you need to adjust the Z offset in the printer settings if it's "compressing" the first few layers. My friends Form 2 does that. Whereas mine is just the opposite and adds about 0.2 mm extra material to the bottom of prints. This can also change when swapping to a new resin tank if the peel layer is at a slightly different height.

Question: I've been thinking of buying a 3D printer. Did the lightsaber require any sanding to smooth?

Using SLA requires basically no sanding, FDM printers will have layer lines that you may want to sand down

Will fully assembled models be available to be bought for some of us who do not have access to a 3D printer?
@thephatnguyen8 жыл бұрын
Unlikely, the price will be tremendously expansive and isn't worth. I wouldn't be surprised if a kit based from 3D printer would cost in the 400$+. At least that is what I would charge to change my mind. The printing time could easily reach days and days, and constant checking is required. Any warp could easily fail the whole printing batch. The resin alone is expansive and can range up to 120$ the liter. FDM alone is quite slow to generate parts, and SLA printer is way more slowlier.
@warrenal008 жыл бұрын
+thephatnguyen oh didn't think about print time. Makes sense though, thanks for pointing that out to me!

What was the point of sounding awkward calling it a lasersword dozens of times and then titling the video lightsaber?
@TomResnick8 жыл бұрын
Reference to George Lucas - he always called 'em "laserswords," not lightsabers.
@jedijeremy8 жыл бұрын
Also, Lawyers. No-one's sure what the legal status of calling something a "lightsaber" is. Given they're completely fictional and you can't actually make one, it should be fine. But no-one really wants to give George the chance to own their house via your crazy legal system.

FDM printers can use way more plastics than only PLA and ABS, like PETG, HIPS, Nylon, TPU etc.

Does anyone know where to get that lightsaber that resembles Luke's at the beginning of the video? The weathering on it reminds me of SaberForge's style but I don't think I've ever seen that design in their store. Edit: I just got to the part where he talks about how he came up with the design, by just putting random parts and junk together to see what he could get out of it. That's the way the prop guys for ANH came up with Obi-Wan's lightsaber which, in my opinion, is the best designed hilt in the whole saga.
