You got there in the end! As a metal worker I can say that making use of all the cutting teeth on the file by running the file over the metal in repeated strokes will remove the metal more quickly and give the cutting teeth a chance to clear. Either way you have achieved you goal.

Gord, thanks for the ball and socket video. My customer needed to mount my clock on his A-frame wall..The ball and socket in cherry worked perfectly. Can’t help showing pics in case you might use it sometime.

To save you a lot of work you could use an angle grinder with a fine cutting disk to rough out the shape and file the last bit!

The Little Garden Shed Workshop Hey, Harry, I'm glad you liked it. Starting to work on the project but the impeller in my dust collector just blew up. I'm not sure if that's going to hold me up or not. I'll get it finished as soon as I can.Take care, .....Gord

Nice result Gord. I couldn't help but wonder if a rotary tool with a metal cutting disk wouldn't be a lot faster, at least to rough out the shape before refining with the files.

Mike Goldfine You may be right, Mike. I don't have any metal cutting disks so I wasn't able to find out. Thanks for the feedback.

Great video Gord! Great use of magnets. I have to agree that the woodturning carbide cutters might not be hefty enough to use safely. You might have explained the necessity to always have a handle on your files(I did see you were using them! Good.). I'm really enjoying your videos. Keep it up BJE
