This video shows the process of making a simple mould and pouring a polyurethane fishing lure to be hand finished and coated with Jigskinz.
For the Plastic I used Smooth-on Featherlite Polyurethane Resin
In the Uk this is Available form Bentley Advanced Materials www.benam.co.uk/
In the US and the rest of the world try www.smooth-on.com/
For Jigskinz the shrink wrappings www.jigskinz.com/
for Stainless screw eyes try Lureparts.com for the US and Lurepartsnl.com for Europe

I completely agree with peacockealot (below) about the professionalism of your videography-and the intriguing ways you craft your lures. BUT, we are never shown how this jerk bait looks/performs in the water! That's what I (and, I feel certain, other lure makers) want to see most!

nice work! lure looks awesome! that featherlite stuff looks like good stuff to me. I may have to get some of it. if it already has the micro baloons in it to make it float,that is one less step I would need to do. the stuff I use now I have to add the micro baloons. it is still good stuff as it is fully cured in 5 min,with a very short pot life after mixing. tonight I made a brand new lure mold after shaping a piece of dowel stick,and using silicon putty to mold around it. I already got a new lure molded,added weight, and it floats good in a cup of water. I just have to paint it,and put a coat of UV resin over it,and it's good to go,as I dressed a treble for it. tight lines!

I've never worked with such resin , ...just wondering , whether it's not possible to twist the screw eyes into pilot holes of thread core diameter,......or the cured resin would turn out too brittle or , ....on the other hand , ....too dense to do so ? Another briliant video of yours again , Paul , ........and your work was even rewarded instantly ! Greetz , Dieter
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 9 жыл бұрын
61diemai I have before drilled pilot holes before and screwed the eyes in, I used a super glue based thread lock on them, which given enough force you can twist out again although i suspect a fish would not be able to untwist them without access to a workshop. The resin can be brittle in thin sections and that is mainly to do with glass spheres I think, normal un-filled polyurethane resin a little like ABS but quite as tough. Hopefully i will using some in a future video, cheers Dieter

@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 7 жыл бұрын
I don't like naming the waters because it puts pressure on them that they don't need, luckily there are not many pieces of fresh water in the country that don't have pike in them, but the local tackle is the place i go to find out where to fish and hand over my wages and talk bollocks for afternoon. Thanks, I hope you never find a cure for your addiction ( that may be a little selfish of me)

Have you tried little bigger and less thicker trebles? Your trebles looks so tiny for a lure. Great video, exciting to wait next one!
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 9 жыл бұрын
Janne Ovaska yes the trebles are a bit heavy they 4x strong vmc size 1, I do have some larger owner trebles which are thinner I think they are 1/0 the trouble i have with them is they are just that bit wider a seem to pick up weed a lot more readily . The size 1 tucks just nicely in, but i have been experimenting with double hooks and breakaway fixing them down to the body. Thanks

If I wanted to make a mold of my favorite plastic bait in order to copy it what product would you suggest for the mold? And what product would you suggest to make the plastic lure?
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 9 жыл бұрын
Thomas Harrell For moulding i generally stick with polytek 3841-f rtv silicone, this has a good strength and lasts, for casting I have been using featherlite resin from smooth-on or Bentley advanced materials in the uk. I am thinking that maybe the next video will be making a mould from this lure, but until I start filming i am never sure. thanks

Ator Tank It has a similar action and feel to big offshore stick bait although sub surface , the whip tail really slowed it down which I found great for pike because i find they are often a bit crap at hitting faster jerking baits. If i was looking at really big ocean fish i would go with a through wire, but that is a whole new video, thanks

Depends what bait your building. Crankbaits work better with a lighter more bouyant would gives them a better action. Where as a glidebait like this you’ll want a more dense wood, so it doesn’t have to weigh a ton in order to sink. Read some online forums there’s tons of different options and pros and cons to all of them, some you through wire some u don’t. I use cedar when I need strength and buoyancy, and maple for baits I need to sink.
