Making a Bass PVC Flute - The Pig Flute

‪@BlueBearFlutes‬' Channel taught me how to make a flute! Thanks man! Here's a little video log and explanation of how I made the flute. All credits of measurements / teaching goes to Blue Bear. Check out his channel, he's a flute master! He also has a book on making flutes!

Measurements:
Track width: 15 mm
Track length: 35 mm
Track hole: 10 mm
2" Pvc length: 825 mm
Front holes: 260 mm, 500 mm, 550 mm
Back holes: 175mm, 410 mm
After hearing the soundtrack to the Mandalorian, I found out that ‪@ludovinmusic‬ uses a Bass Recorder in it and I was like "Cool! How much do those cost?" - because they're pretty nifty and amazing- they usually cost minimum 99 USD (and reviews were bad) to 3000+ USD and I was like... "Nah, I'm not going to play it professionally, I just like the sound! I need something cheaper So... why not make one myself ?"
Quick KZbin tutorial search and I found Blue Bear flutes explaining how to make a decent 5 hole contra bass flute for under 20 USD! The rest-- is history!
It was my first flute build and I'm quite happy with it! Just wanted to share my process with the world / internet :)

That was a simplified version of the Shire theme from the Lord of the Rings 🤣 but yea, you can definitely make a flute! Bass ones are a little more difficult to make if it is your first one, but still really fun to learn.

Cool build, but still an octave too high to call it a contra bass :) It's a basset recorder, the smallest of the bass recorders.

Hey! Just saw your comment, not sure why but KZbin doesn't notify me any more. I'll bet you could make one too. Go for it! Just remember not to make the track too deep (i did that the first time). Nice for a first flute ! Little bit "airy", because your sound hole is to long. it must look like rectangular shape, not a square shape. Begening flute crafting with big contrabass models is not the easiest thing to do, because dealing with sound mechanisnm and fingers holes placement is not simple as that is on smaleriest size flutes... the air channel tickness have a crutial effect on air quantity needed to have a sound. If you juge this need to much air, reduce the air channel tickness will help you ! Also the angles of the sounding hole is pevry important. the edge could be blunted for a clearer tone. If you are interest in flute making, go check the web site "flutopedia". they are tons of information about Native flutes craft.

Thanks so much for the advice, I'll definitely check site that out. I agree it is a bit on the airy side. But for a first try (and a contrabass at that)-- I'm pretty happy. Definitely going to try new materials in the future (bamboo) and different sizes. Thinking of going simpler next to get more skills-- an overtone flute.
