I love giving my customers the cheapest shipping rate I can. I found that sending things parcel is the best. As a seller, you make no extra money doing this, but I think the buyers appreciate this. The flat rate legal sized envelopes are nice too. You can fit a lot in those.

I personally like calculated shipping because it separates the item price from the shipping price when the buyer is looking at an item in my store, and it gives them a more up-front and realistic idea why the shipping cost may be a bit higher the further it has to be shipped. It is also a bit better for dealing with returns, and for tax purposes I think.

I have just under 500 listings and I use flat rate shipping on about 90% of them and free shipping on the rest. I try and keep shipping cost to a minimum, I have come up short a few times, but overall it works out just fine. I have never used calculates shipping for the reasons you mentioned in your video (The cranberry Pyrex to CA for $79).

My sales on eBay have been 💩for the last the last 4 months….in Jan I had a lot,of great sales, in Feb some decent ones, but since then just a trickle. I even revamped all my listings, re-comp’d everything; adjusted prices, as needed, updated shipping options (with about half a flat shipping rate, depending on weigh/class; and some free shipping-mostly media), made sure everything was listed with “Best Offer”. Fortunately, I resell for fun, not to make a living (retired military).

I could be wrong, but think you have to set up policies in order to set up the "standard shipping" mentioned at approx 7:40. This is likely the reason you can't select it from the app. I do calculated shipping and my shipping preferences are set to pass along eBay's negotiated discounted rates to the customer. Flat rate scares me and I dropped free shipping after getting burned. Good video. Thanks for what you do!

Best offer is turned on for all my items. I do not do free shipping at all. People say offer free shipping and just build the cost of shipping into your price. Yeah there's one major issue with that. So lets say you sell an item, the person opens a return because they just didn't like it. Well now when they ship it back to you, you have to refund them 100% of the purchase price including that free shipping cost you built into that price. Had you charged shipping you would only have to refund the actual cost of the item and not the shipping cost.
@profithunter777 Жыл бұрын
Also to combat those outrageous shipping prices to half the country using calculated shipping, make sure you put 12x12x12 as your package size and then update it to the actual size when your item sells. Doing this will give your customers fair shipping prices regardless of where they are in the country when using USPS.

I use Best Offer on a high percentage of my listings. I do receive some laughably low offers but overall I think it helps my business. I think psychologically buyers like to believe they are receiving a great deal even though the offer price they send may not be much lower than the listed price. Also if I have a quantity listing with 5, or 10, or 20 items, etc. I am usually willing to accept a much lower per item price if they want to buy a number of the same item.

I have been selling for 26 years now and also have List Perfectly. For a long time I would start my listing on eBay and then cross list because it's what I was most familiar with. After hearing the Pro's of starting my listing directly on LP I begrudgingly made the change. It was the best thing I have done. In the notes section I always put the weight and dimensions. If you do calculated and your reducing the weight/dimensions to save buyers on shipping, then put that in your notes section. When your wife cross lists she would have that information. I just recently went from calculated to flat rate for the reasons you stated. Not everything but 98% of my listings. I wasn't being competitive with calculated and my sales on heavier items have increased.

Twisted Metal Game: I was surprised to see the $30 game in a cracked case. It’s pretty easy to swap them or just keep a stash of empties around that were found missing the discs. Flat Rate Shipping and Family is another good point. My wife takes pics and drafts listings, but rarely does the shipping so lacks real time knowledge of shipping costs and how each sold item is likely to ship: USPS First Class, Priority, Ground or FedEx. So each time there is a big rate change I give her a cheat sheet with weights vs the Flat Rate cost to insert. It’s as much as she wants to know and she has me check her choice as I make the listing go live in my laptop. Like you, I’ve been doing it so long I make the choice and price without much thought and when there is a big change like Ground Advantage, do some comparison research between rates until it once again becomes routine, until the next change. It’s easier to tell someone something like: if it can fit in a Priority Padded Bubble Mailer and my label cost is $8.30. Then insert a Flat Rate of $9.79 and do that for each type of package, then have each person make different choices. Simplicity is good and the more staff, simple is even better.

I think I have a better option for you. I used to do shipping the same way as you with manipulating the weight/size to help shipping cost, but a while back I changed it up and had to tweak it for a bit but I think I have found the best way. Set up your shipping to pass on the eBay discount. Then I was rounding up a pound or whatever to help cover some of the fees on that shipping charge but recently USPS has changed it to charge less for shipping close zones so this wasn't working so well anymore. So now I am adding a small handling charge instead. I dont like flat rate for heavier items because you either "rip off" ppl close to you or "rip yourself" off when selling further away depending on how you do it.

I love the best offer thing as a way to connect with buyers and get an idea of when I need to go to the post office, but as I get more things in my store, I am taking the best offer OFF anything below $15-20. While I personally look at shipping prices, I don't think that many people look at shipping prices or people who are charging $25 for shipping shoes would never sell them. I also noticed the people selling antiques and jewelry flat rate $10 even if the item is only $20 and small enough to ship first class. I asked one particular seller and was told that they don't have a scale, so ship flat rate whatever it fits in easily.

Out of over 2500 items listed I have zero that use “best offer”. I had been using calculated shipping on pretty much anything over first class. I was using “free shipping” on all of our first class items but I am changing that with all new listings and most of my older active listings. They will become calculated for 2 reasons: 1. Being a top ranked seller, I get a discount on the shipping labels (if a buyer pays $5.65 I might pay $4.42) 2. When I send a 5% offer, the percentage is on the list price not the shipping. If an item is $20 shipped and I send a 5% offer the offer is $19. But if it’s $14.50 plus $5.50 shipping, the 5% offer is $.73 off instead of $1 off. Not only will I make money on the shipping but the discount is $.27 less. That may not seem like much but added up over time it makes sense.

Concerning free shipping ... if we are selling an item that is possibly breakable and might need to file for the Priority insurance if it were to get damaged in shipping, we will raise the buy-it-now price (to include shipping cost) and offer free shipping. That way, if we have to file for insurance we will be reimbursed the entire cost. Insurance won't pay the shipping cost if you charge for it. That way, neither we nor the buyer are out money.

My only issue with calculated shipping is that dimensions don’t change on multi-quantity purchases. Let’s say that I have a multi-quantity listing where one item weighs two pounds and measures 8”x10”x12”. If I sell five to one buyer, eBay will charge them shipping based on ten pounds but with the same dimensions as one item. Because the package would be oversized, I then either have to pay the surcharge or split the shipment into multiple boxes. Either way I usually end up paying more in shipping than I collect from the buyer, but eBay for Business has always reimbursed the difference when asked.

My response to that is "not accepting offers". Usually I also block the originator of the message making the offer. I started by using best offer on all items over $10. Then I read that some resellers feel that not many bother to offer. They just pay the price. I decided to go with no offers except on high priced items or no offers but using free first class shipping. Most of my stuff is jewelry.

Set up business policies. Then your customers can pick between UPS, FEDEX or USPS prices.

I use flat rate for virtually every listing because it makes it faster for me as I list. Also our Best Offer on every listing, but I only have around 450 listings so my store isn’t as big as yours.

When I started, I did not do free shipping. Now, anything new will get free shipping. People love free shipping due to Amazon. A few friends even told me, they don't buy unless it is free shipping. I also use best offer on anything above 10 dollars. I like giving 10-15 percent off and set limits so I don't get the low ball offers. People have to do what the feel comfortable with. I have thought about a flat rate on certain items that are very heavy but have not implemented that yet. I will just keep adding the price of the shipping into the total cost when I list it.

I sell so many things to PA, NY, FL NC all the way from Northern Nevada where I live...I use Best Offer and enjoy communicating with my buyers...Extremely Low offers are declined, usually...But when I counter-giving buyers a deal...they are happy buyers. As far as Shipping- I always use Calculated. I am very pleased with eBay & like I've said so many times: (Feedback Makes my Day, "I live for the Feedback", the extra $$$ supplements my Minimal Retirement Funds and that is also awesome). Thanks to you and other Resellers who have made my Store a success. Everyone, have a Very Happy 4th of July & God Bless America!

I use flat rate shipping on everything. Makes listing so easy and with 25 years reselling I am spot on 99% of the time. I may loose a dollar or gain a dollar depending on location, but it all evens out.

Beat offer and free shipping are supposed to boost your algorithms. I charge shipping I vintage vinyl records. Media mail rate is not a deal killer for vinyl collectors who want a specific record.

I use calculated shipping on all items since I am shipping from California. Only about 25% of my listings, which are all fixed price, include Best Offer.

I use best offer in almost all listings. I also usually set a limit around 50% of asking price.

Best offer on most some type items I do not due to ridiculously low offers like gold jewelry. Always plus shipping- calculated, shipping cost changes and may very for certain areas.

I use best offer but set limits. I just cant deal with the low low ball offers 😂 I switched to flat rate shipping in January and I believe it has made the biggest difference in my shop. It is a learning curve though because I have messed up a few times. But now I think I got it and have not lost any money in the last few months. I highly recommend it. I made this change after getting multiple complaints about shipping. I was doing calculated. I really believe it makes a difference.

I used to do free shipping for everything... I did sell a lot more by doing this .

I have always done best offer, I don't mind the low balls. I just counter or decline. The only time I don't do Best offer is when I am listing something under $20. Thanks for all the knowledge!

If you want a good source for brand new CD/DVD/Video Game cases I can tell you who I get mine through. Last time I bought 1000's of replacement jewel cases I could get them with a new case and a new tray (either black or clear) for 15 cents a piece including shipping. I strongly recommend you find a wholesale vendor for replacement jewel cases. I don't replace all cases but if it is a rare or out of print or BOLO item I will change the case......For 15 cents you can easily demand a premium price.....And for me that is really true because I own an Azuradisc disc resurfacing machine. I also replace jewel cases for cheaper stuff because it makes it sell so much faster, they look so new.

Almost all of my Shipping is Flat Rate shipping, but yes, there are positive and negatives to each shipping model. For instance, when the carriers raise rates, my shipping price can lag, but I see that as another form of running a sale as listings age. Since I do my listing on a laptop and check the listings my wife does on her phone (on my laptop) I often use the Standard Shipping selection for items larger then a Medium Flat Rate box. Be careful with bigger items that might go to Alaska,, Hawaii, PR or a PO Box. You may need to block such destinations or add a listing note.

I like Flat Rate because it is simple and am hoping Ground Advantage will help too.

If your going to consider the business policies make sure you have a few hours before you start down that road. The moment we clicked the link eBay automatically transferred all of our stuff to policies and it took hours for us to clean it up. Just fyi. We are like you and do a mix.
