But these folks think that I'm not right in my head for missing my work, personally I think they're not right in their's for thinking life is so grand when you can't work, and have to sit around bored outta your head with no real purpose in your life anymore. Glad to see I'm not alone in that sentiment, and I understand exactly how you feel. Btw, dam good work you do young man, your pop, and your grandfathers should be dam proud of the way you turned out. @@timothymilam732 I can relate to your situation. I'm in radio broadcast electronics and in 2000 a ladder slipped with me on it and I crushed L1&2 in my back damaging my spinal cord. Fortunately I was in an ambulance in 10 minutes and operated on the next day by a trauma team of very competent surgeons and given a second chance. Everything is not right but with physio and care I returned to work for another 10 years before I was retired. I opened my own business doing contract engineering and had more work than I wanted until covid19 came along. Now it's emergency only and I could be bored out of my mind if I let it. Instead I've returned to my hobby of building a model traction engine that I started 40+ years ago. It'll keep my mind and hands busy when I'm not on the road. Keep the right attitude and take care of yourself. Who cares what others think. Keep standing. Covid19 doesn't like gravity. My theory anyway. Ron in Canada's banana belt.

I agree. When you first loaded the eye in the 4 jaw I wondered what you were thinking when you advanced the two "forward" jaws to the material and then put the two inserts in. I figured all that would do was push it out of the chuck. Then you welded them in and I saw the method of using the corner to actually drag it into the chuck. Very clever idea. It said that if a teacher is not a very good teacher at the end up teaching gym class, and that was kind of the attitude they had towards shop here. The one who was the teacher to shop class was Dudley, son of the school superintendent. The other was mr. Spence, a master machinist who decided to change jobs and become a teacher and really taught his students a lot of stuff. I see that boring bar that I believe you made comes up in this episode. You should take a tour around your shop and show people some of the tools and stuff that you've made for your own shop. I find it fascinating that you can bootstrap a lot a tools that you need.

To Karen… your video shots are outstanding. I don’t know if you’ve taken classes on this or if it is instinctual (I’ll bet the latter) but you place the camera in the right place at the right time. During the facing of the part, you had the camera perfect for those rainbow rays coming off the the oil on the face of the part. There are DPs that would DIE for a shot like this! You’re editing is excellent but more important, you know your audience and their threshold of watching real-time and when to get creative (slo-mo or time lapse) with just the right music track. I’ve worked with videographers in the past that this would go right over their heads. Kudos. [from a recently retired tech company instructional manager]

Very nicely done including the radius. That radius is not just eye candy, it tries to prevent pinpoint stresses from building up on the surface. For it to operate as intended, the finish and the transitions around that radius should be fairly smooth. I probably would have done the last finish for the round part using the button tool just to get that radius as smooth as possible.

I have been watching about 10 of your videos and now I subscribed. Quality content made by true professional, with humor and lighter content. And the video editing is absolutely brilliant! I.e. in this video the lathe work, you show how you setup and start cutting, but then the boring bit is edited and speed up, but you still get to see how the part is taking its finals shape. Amazing! I was before keenly waiting new machining videos from Abom, but nowadays his content is disinteresting to me . All he is doing is lapping stones, making tool holders and various fixtures, adverts different products etc. and rarely does any machining for actual real usage. But now I have found your channel and really like your heavy machinery work!

Oh, and fact that you are using metric measurements instead of the fractions of a banana, is a huge plus for me :D

The art and beauty of machining brought to us from Down Under. I never thought that these kind of videos could be such addictive. BTW: your partner is adding a special kind of warmth to the whole thing. Happiness & success for you both!

Wow...... that's how every video should start from now on........ an opening scene with a helicopter and then a huge machine shop and welding to follow....... could it be anymore like an episode of the A-Team......😀

You mentioned that the cause of the fail was side loading on the eye. did you figure out the cause of that cuz if you think about it thats gotta be some serious side load to cause this and makes me think either the eye itself was machined/bent or the bushings/bearings? on the arm itself is worn and while the cylinder is retracted causing major side load stress?
@raymclaughlin20323 жыл бұрын
The side loading is probably due to the operator puting the flat backside down on the ground then sliding it across the ground to try to push some heavy rocks to the right or left really bad idea the bucket is not a broom .....
