This is my first bronze pour and largest pour I have ever done. For materials I used ultra vest jewelers investment. I held the mold at high temp for about 4 hours hoping that the wax would burn off in that time.
I’m not sure it did.
Following directions is important but also it is very difficult for me to control the temperatures with the set up I have. I’m still working on improving it.
Trial and error is my teacher. My only hope it to have some success along the way.

A fun and interesting set of videos! A comment about metal melting, I worked in foundry's a few years, the rule is: Ferris metals bounce off, non-ferris metals Stick!! Armor up, thick heavy boots, cotton pants, carrhart coat and heavy gloves. It appears over kill unless something goes wrong. I had a splash of lead hit my arm, it wouldn't shake off, had to use pliers to get it off. Lead melts at a quarter of the heat of bronze. Aluminum takes a lot more heat than iron or bronze does to melt, even though aluminum melts at around 1300 F and iron melts around 2900. Make sure there is No water around on the ground, spilled metal will explode contacting it, spreading liquid metal all over the yard.. Don't work on concrete. For cheap wax, I have used paraffin mixed with 5 gallon plastic bucket chunks. It is about 4 to one wax to plastic, depending on shrinkage which is acceptable. Melt the wax out side. It carves quit nicely and is quite firm. It burns out with no ash.

Looking better than the first one. 😁 Won't be long until you'll be casting bronze bears like a pro. 👍

Great results for your first effort. At that mold temp the wax was defiantly gone. The extended burnout times are to protect the investment. The lost of detail on the one side is most likely due to the metal shrinking, a bigger gate and cup will help.

Ahh! I didn’t think of that. Yeah I knew shrinkage was going to be an issue because I cast it solid.

Use a perforated flask with a collar, and enlarge the opening on your vacuum table so the flask sits down into the chamber. This will draw a vacuum on the whole peice.

I will buy a perforated flask eventually. The biggest problem in have is not melting the seal. The silicone rubber isn’t rated for a very high heat. And I’ve tried graphite but can’t get it to seal.

You don't have to use glue to make your tube water tight for the gypsum. Just use a rim of clay. You can recycle that. :)
