When I learned to cast, we would brush the wax mold in soapy water before pouring the plaster to help eliminate air bubbles. We also weren’t making anything quite as large and did not have access to a vacuum chamber.

Very nice result. I was drawn to this by the title. As a dental lab tech of 45 years, I am experienced in lost wax casting. That's how nearly all dental work is made. A suggestion. Get a dental handpiece. They are not expensive, and are much less bulky than a Dremel. This allows you to hold it like a potato peeler, inside your fist, so to speak. Then use your thumb as a brace against the casting. You can work much more accurately this way, do very delicate movements. Good luck!

Learned some more about bronze 👍 last couple of days since finding this excellent channel I notice that you try to repair with the tig welder…..might I suggest a smiths little torch, I just got myself hooked up with one and an oxycon machine, it is soooo fine for very small soldering I’m sure it would be good for bronze delicate fixes, esp with copper solder. My suggestion for a make would be a ‘wolverine’ or ‘snow hare’ jumping…..on wind blown snow of course.

I always see you use traditional investment, have you ever tried ceramic shell?
@lundgrenbronzestudios

I never have. I want to at some point. But suspenda slurry is expensive. Plus the sand. And the room to store it. It’s kind of delayed my entry into the ceramic shell world.

@@lundgrenbronzestudios I tried to burn it out like your scorpion. I don't have a kiln, so I used the foundry forge. I think it would have worked over all, but I did everything wrong. Plaster paris, unknown brass/bronze mix, and a too cold mold. I don't have a way to vacuum cast either.. I'm learning slowly! I'll have a too long video tomorrow. Mentioned your channel, hopefully you'll get a sub or two.

Awesome! It’s fun to try things. I remember using my foundry furnace to try to do burn outs before I got my kiln. Very limited success.

@@lundgrenbronzestudios Yeah, I think it burned out OK, but the plaster did crack some too. I tried it in a bean can that completely fell apart.

Saw it on Facebook and followed you over here. Looks awesome! What is material is your filler rod when welding? Bronze, too? You’re using a TIG welder.. I was not aware you could TIG bronze. I would have figured you’d have had to braze it with a torch.
