In this video show my process of how I design a case, print it in 3D castable resin, and cast the case in silicon bronze. I include tips and tricks for ash free casts.

I love everything I see in your video, your craftmanship is excellent. Have you considered going from the CAD software to STEP files and a 6 axis CNC milling machine? -Frank

For bespoke pieces like this one I think that the CNC mill is cost prohibitive. Also I feel the hand made look and feel of the cast case suits the vintage movements.

Excellent work! i tried something similar with 3d printed lost wax and a custom 3D model for a GMT watch, but the dimensions varied a lot, how can you compensatee that!? Amazing video and i'm glad i was not the only one thinking about doing something like this! -Greetings from Santiago, Chile

I have found that making the critical features thicker than needed and cutting away the extra on the lathe is the way to go.

Excellent work, and a very nice casting, can't wait for part 2. You didn't mention it in the video but it looks like you are using the vacuum chamber to pull a vacuum on the flask during the pour, how important would you say this is?

Thank you. Yes, I do use a vacuum chamber to pull a vacuum on the flask and I have never tried a pour without it. I really can't imagine the casting filling correctly without it.

@@Watchspotnet Cheers, I've never had any success with casting, maybe I need to get a vacuum chamber.

Do you think the process would be the same in 18k gold?

Really enjoyed this btw. “DIY” watch case videos are nearly non existent on KZbin without a 50K cnc machine

Yes, the process is exactly the same for any precious metal. The only thing that changes is the temperature that the metal melts at and pours at.
