If you have enough flannel, you could make bias tape for the hem facing - it would also add a bit of weight to the bottom edge.

I never watched Outlander, but I think you came really close at recreating the coat. I think it looks cozy and stylish at the same time, something a lot of coats nowadays don't seem to pull of. Great job!
