I've met a lot of metal smiths who say they are a mastersmith. I've also met a lot of woodworkers who say they are master craftsmen. But for all the fishermen I've met, not one admits to being a master baiter.

Hey man, been a real fan of yours since well before the power hammer fiasco. You’re a bit younger than me, so I hope you don’t take it poorly that I say that I’m proud of you. You’re doing what you love… cool. You’re trying everyday to get better… awesome. I first “met” you through Alec’s KZbin -‘d I can tell ya, your story post Alec has been absolutely fantastic. It’s almost like I’m getting a deeper spinoff of a show I loved in the first place. Keep it up, bud! ✝️

Very nice repair on the knife, well done. On the milling of the slot, why you now have a new feature to deal with, yes better end support But you were climb milling as you came across the slot, this will always want to pull the work into the cutter. If you had not come across the slot in that direction you would have been fine (coventional milling). Thank you for sharing Will.

Hey one question, isnt it bad if there are like the hard 90 degree corners in the area between the integral guard and the blade? I thought those are like stressrisers which could initiate cracking during use. Or is it just done like this on that particular knife since it is a show piece?
@masoncarter2660
@masoncarter2660 3 ай бұрын
I think you've got it exactly right, it'll be plenty strong for being mainly a showpiece. I think the bigger strength issue would be drilling holes in the blade haha.

Its interesting seeing more knifemakers turning towards machining to get things as perfect as possible but i also think there should be a stipulation in the mastersmith testing that a knife me be done with your more basic tools. Like hammer, anvil, files, belt grinder, and drill press.

So heres a question Will, wouldn't leaving a hard squared transition from the ricasso into the integral bolster create a stress riser, especially with the cracks you noticed in your finger guard? Or is there another way youre mitigating, or due to the heat treat and mass of the parts not as worried for a showpiece?
