Never seen a gallon of Bondo mixed at one time. This a process I’ve wanted to try but I can never seem to find a body to copy since I tend to make oddball trucks. 😁 Maybe one day I will get a large vacuum former to replace my homemade one.

I’ve never mixed that much at once either!

A gallon of Bondo? Well you've never been to Tijuana. Screw chicken wire over the dent, stuff it with newspaper, and coat it with Bondo.

Amazing, I purchased a 3D printer one year ago because of a simple ESC tray that wasn't available for purchase. It turned out to be an amazing tool. Part of my New Year's resolution was to learn CAD. I am still at beginner level however being able to just design and print something I need is amazing. This is right in that vein of being an awesome tool and I absolutely love it. Thanks for the video.

This type of stuff goes hand in hand with 3D printing for sure! I have some plans for my scale nationals builds that will combine printing and vacuum forming!

Finally learning the use for all this. Watching all these styrene videos I started seeing these in use. Never knew what it was for when you first talked about it on the SCX24 budget series.

What I’ve done while doing automotive bodywork is to use fiberglass resin as a thinner for body filler. You might can thin a small amount and brush into the mold to help prevent air bubbles on the surface. I also used the thinned filler to fill pin holes.

Wow beats the heck out of a heat lamp, a wooden block with a bunch of holes drilled in it setting on a box with a shop vac hooked to it (Thanks, Popular Mechanics Mag outta the 70's) Love your stuff, my tuber frame truggy owes a bit to you for it's existence. After I saw your vids on how to fab your own tube frame, I built one. Then another, then about three more till I got the damn thing right. Now it's 6 1/2 pounds, low, angled skid, Vanquish all through it. As always, thanks, and have fun.

What is the detail like on the bottom of the piece ? You may be a few steps from getting a detailed piece by making a mold of the detailed bottom ( if it is detailed ) and then turning it over to make another mold. It’s like you are now getting a negative instead of a positive finished hood. Takes twice the amount of material but the finished vacuumed piece should have the detail you want.
@HarleyDesignsInc
@HarleyDesignsInc 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question, but this seems to be the normal process for vacuum forming. This is so that the material stays the thickest for the majority of the part I believe. This is basically the same shape as what someone like Proline would use as well.
@MrBurtonf
@MrBurtonf 2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. You’re losing so much detail - or should I say the detail is underneath the body since you are forming the body against the mold which is on the underside.

The tickets will be for sale on Eventzilla, so you don’t need FB. But that is where the event link will be posted.

Could you take your favorite lexan body & follow the steps you did to duplicate your favorite body? Say TRX-4 body?
@HarleyDesignsInc
@HarleyDesignsInc 2 жыл бұрын
You could, but the amount of effort it takes to do it really wouldn’t make sense if you can just buy a replacement. This is best for custom applications really.

Very nice work. I've done some casting myself but smaller scale 1/24 scale model kit type stuff. I've used plaster to make my sculpt then using silicone and resin to make the part. I have not used Bondo to create a Buck but then again I don't have a vacuum set up. I wonder what the advantages or disadvantages for using Bondo vs resin?
