Are the tube attachments at the bottom open into the box, or just there as holders so there isn't an open end of the bowden tubes when not in use?

They are open, so the excess bowden tube can be pushed into the box.

Why are the bowden tubes's looped round back into the box?

It's so that the air from the room can't get into the box by the bowden tube openings.

No need for the bag just pour them in the bottom

That would work too but I wanted to try something different. By having the bag under the lid it's easier to take the silica beeds out for drying and there's also less dust that could clog up the nozzle. I don't know if all that hustle was worth it, but now it's done 😅.
