Good video. It didn't seem too hard until halfway through. When you started pulling strands apart then I realized why I would buy a premade tow rope!

Thanks. Yes, I know what you mean. I've made a few ropes and soft shackles, and it gets easier every time. If I were to do this for the first time, I might buy a bit of extra rope and practice the splices on a spare bit first. I have a video on building soft shackles coming soon as well.

Great video! I do have a couple of questions. How did you determine the size of the loops on the ends? I recommend recapping how you came up with the "Fid Lengths." It seems very important for a safe finished Extension Rope.

The loop ends just need to be large enough to easily feed a shackle, strap, or the other end of the rope into itself. I have made these ropes before, so know what size works well for me. All the fid lengths and bury depths come from Samson Rope, the manufacturer of the rope I used. There is a link in the description to their recommendations.

What type of sleeving are you using? what size 1" for 3/8 rope?

I believe this is what I used for this build (from Amazon): "Electriduct 1.5" Nylon Protective Hose Sleeve". I think 1" would work for 3/8 rope, but having a larger diameter sleeve makes it easier to slide on the rope.
