I know these new ideas are going to ruffle some feathers in this industry but this is going to change winching for most of us! And in a good way of course!
This all started with a basic idea. Make winch ropes simpler and protect them from damage. AND make sure the consumer can repair the rope themselves!!! This rules out any complicated rope systems with knots hanging in front of the fairlead AND it makes hooks obsolete. Yankum ropes already laid the gound work with a winch line that was a simple loop at the end. They just needed a clean way to store the rope without having a metal hook or weird ball at the end. This is were I came in. My idea was to build a fairlead that allows you to secure the winch loop in the fairlead and make their metal free winch line easy to store. Yankum Ropes has been working on this for almost a year to make sure this was durable, affordable and 100% Made in the USA!
If you are interested then make sure you go to www.thedirtlifstyle.com

As a machinist... no way this should cost soooo much... u can still machine and coat amd ship this for around 100. But dont worry it will get copied and sold on f.b. market place for 75 in about a month give it 6 be4 its on ebay. Everytime someone makes something nice n new they wanna hit u over the head. Seriously 265 is way to much for a piece of aluminum coated.

Has anyone installed this with a hidden winch mount? I would love to do this for a 2017 LC 200, but there's no information on how it might work with a SDHQ or Trail Tailor mount. Also, the offset version looks better to me--even more questions there. How do I get help on this? Looks awesome!

Agreed. Having all the complicated knots that can't be retied easily if damaged was a deal breaker for me. I have only used my winch to pull stumps out so far and it frayed a bit already but it was an Amazon special so when the time comes, I will cut the metal thimble off and tie a loop into the end or get a nice replacement.

Yeah giving a sales pitch for your product while also saying "you don't even have to buy this, you can make it yourself with your current line and I'll show you how" speaks volumes about how you don't just care about a cash grab, but actually improving people's equipment. 👍🏻 Awesome idea with the fairlead having the groove to lock the line in place for storage.

You’re the man Nate. Bringing us a little Christmas on Thanksgiving day. So sweet. Saw some negative comments; love that this is made in America. If we want the best you gotta be willing to pay more. Period. Without getting too political we have allowed our nation to outsource far too much and have sold ourselves out for cheap disposable products. It’s great to see any company offer a product made start to finish in America. I’ll be looking to buy this but now you made me have to think what company is offering an American made winch. If there even is one. So I can bolt it on to my Taco! Lmao, had been a Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth guy my whole life too. Still have a few too. 😉 happy thanksgiving to you and you family. My synthetic winch rope is brand new, not even used once. Thought of cutting off the hook and just using a soft shackle through the eye loop. The only metal left would be the reinforcement inside the eye loop. Great Idea, and will look to purchase when time to replace.
@krover01
@krover01 2 жыл бұрын
Thats my point too. In fact that reinforcement in the loop is there for a reason. Why not just pass the soft shackle through there and call it good? My buddy has been doing that for years.
@deathspawn54
@deathspawn54 6 ай бұрын
Absolutely do it with the eye loop still in there, will help the loop last longer, that's exactly what I am doing with mine, took the hook off and just use a soft shackle to attach it to stuff, and then I just use the soft shackle to hold the end of the winch line to somewhere on my truck, no need for any fancy fairlead

Happy thanksgiving Nate! Wonderful work on this. Many of us have been running a simple buried loop for years, but seeing a handy fairlead to store it on is slick. Well done sir. One thing to watch out for is that the thimble provides abrasion resistance and helps widen the bend radius of the line a bit, both of which do help strength a bit. Doesn't have to be a fancy crazy Factor$$ thing, but anything that helps protect will lengthen the lifespan of the loop. You can of course run thimble-less, but the lifespan of the loop is decreased slightly Now as you said, it doesn't REALLY matter, because when it wears, you just splice another, but the length of wasted line in the bury is significant. Can't wait to see what you come up with as this system evolves!

Nice, I've been using synthetic winch lines for over 20 years it was funny "back in the day" and nobody else would trust them. I ditched winch hooks then too. Now I do have a few running cable and hooks just due to sun exposed and hardly ever spooled out for use. But on my "retired" Rockcrawler I went synthetic off the bat, I've seen winch cable and steel cable mishaps.

I love that you don't try to keep this proprietary. I've always felt that if you develop a good product, there are enough people that will buy it even though you've told them how to make it. DIY'rs will always just reverse engineer a good design anyway and they wouldn't be the market in the first place. I love how you are approaching this dude. There's enough money to be made without pretending you are the only person on earth that can think of something and make it. I'm the kind of guy that would see this and go make it myself. But when you approach me this way, I'd probably buy this to save myself the trouble and show appreciation for a good design and honesty in business. Carry on the good work young man.

I will order it but I need to know how to put a loop in a winch line. I have seen some other videos on the subject you need a long needle basically. Keep making American made products even if it cost more we will buy them.

Awesome! Do you have a video of how to do the loop, or does any type of loop works? What is the red cover on the loop?

Same thing has happened here mate. Sold out to cheap labour from China. Now we’re screwed and can’t get stock and inflation is insane. I try and buy Australian or US made gear as much as I can. We need to support manufacturers on home soil. Yes it’s more expensive, but it’s way better quality and you are supporting your fellow countryman put food on the table for their families. Respect my man, keep it up.

Ps could you come up with a rack or a box. For storage and to separate the ropes from the shackles. Everything is always at the bottom of the bag

Would have preferred the coating on the end of the line. UV damage is a concern with synthetic line and that would offer great protection. Just good for thought. Or maybe make a cap for us who weekend warrior our rigs and store it outside in the sun during the week. 😁 Otherwise I agree 100% ditch the complex, the best part is no part.

I would still want the coating on the end for protecting the end from the elements. Sand, snow, dirt, mud, and rocks are going to take a toll on the loop over time.

@@Supermangoaliedude I’m with you on the UV protection thing. UV coatings wear off via abrasion and the eye/loop is constantly exposed to sun, wear & tear etc. My winch line eye is covered by a little bag that I made for precisely this reason. I’m also interested to test a winch line with built in Soft Shackle at the end….

Triggered! My Apex winch has a pretty sick looking hook. I don't see anything wrong with this idea though. I've snapped a couple winch lines and we had weight on the middle of the line so no injuries but that's not to say it can't and doesn't happen. Weight on the middle only reduces the "likelyhood" of heavy hooks or shackles flying more than 50% the pull distance. Long story short, although I won't be purchasing one right now, I support the mission for safe trails. Best of luck!
